First of all, the table has landed! Steve documents its arrival here

Secondly, through the good offices of [livejournal.com profile] laurahcory1, we are in receipt of paper arcs of Fledgling. Help us determine how we will give these away! Shall we have a pool for how long it will take Sharon to get her office back into workable order? Draw names out of a (virtual) hat? Have a contest? What kind? Tell, tell!

Thirdly, the harassment training at the day-job wasn't too bad. The campus EEO person had taken some time to find a video that wasn't preachy, and made some fairly good points about respect. The main cast were four people who are attending a harassment training session; the facilitator is late, and they wind up reading the materials and discussing them among themselves. The characters were: a blond woman, a black guy, a fat guy and a Jewish guy. Characterization-wise, it was interesting that the writers chose the black guy as the one who Got It last. Anyhow, the characters reflect on times when they might have been insensitive and then you get to hear the point of view of the person who was disrespected; then they talk about when they've been disrespected and brainstorm strategies for approaching the perpetrator. I had taken coffee as a precaution, but I didn't actually need it as an aid to staying awake.

The presenter is fairly new in her position as EEO person, and has some rough edges -- she forgot to introduce herself, for instance (not a Terrible Crime in our group, since most, if not all, of us knew who she was), and she fumbled a couple of questions. That was balanced by her willingness to make notes of suggestions, and of some problems that cropped up during group discussion. I think she would probably benefit by making a script and glancing at it from time to time, just to keep herself on track. She also gets points for keeping within her time limits.

Fourthly, I adore this picture, and would likewise adore being able to attend the dinosaur show, which I'm pretty sure isn't in the cards, but...sigh.

Fifthly, Hexapuma made a break for it on Wednesday night, seeing his opportunity in the unlatched kitchen door. Happily, he had followed Steve out, so we were immediately aware of the breach in security, but may I just say -- chasing a dark grey coon cat of dubious good sense, and deaf in one ear, around a country front yard in the dark? No fun.

I have a usable work surface, my computer is connected to the internet and to the printer. The Internet -- i.e. the cable box, router, phone and answering machine, which are currently occupying a corner of my table, will need to very soon occupy a shelf over the table, just as soon as said shelf can be attached.

The rest of my office is completely, unforgivably, even disastrously, messy, but! I can write, which is good, because revisions on Mouse and Dragon start Very Soon.

For the rest, I need to clean out the authors' copies that have taken over my supply closet so I can put supplies in it again. I'd gotten frustrated and crammed all my supplies in the hutch part of my desk, which I no longer have, which is about as neat a demonstration of Fix it Now or Fix it Later as I've ever been privileged to participate in. Also? I really need to get rid of some books.

Mozart is sulking.

...and I. Have galleys for Fledgling to print out.
