Damn, I'm good
Monday, July 31st, 2006 01:10 pmSome of the on-going amusement of my life is provided by a small, but erratic gift of precognition.
For instance, today, I'm getting ready for the first day on the new job. I have showered. I have donned work clothes. I am on my way down the hall to the kitchen to make the Sacrificial Cheese Sandwich to take with. I'm maybe three steps away from the kitchen, in fact, when the phone rings.
kinzel is nearer and heads for the phone stand. (Actually, it's not a phone stand, it's a microwave cart with an extra shelf, which we use as a phone stand. The microwave is on top of the cart, and it's a blessing, yes it is, that we're both tall.)
"It's my boss," I say from the hallway. "They don't need me today."
kinzel laughs and picks up the phone. I hear, "May I tell her who's calling?" as I step into the kitchen.
"Just a moment,"
kinzel says, and holds the phone out to me.
"It's your boss," he says.
And, yup, they don't need me today.
Hey, at least I hadn't made the sandwich yet.
