I made a slideshow! Go me! It's here.

What I'll use it for, or why I need it, ghod knows, but, still -- a slideshow!

From the Department of Bemusement: My old (old, old) job is advertised in today's newspaper, only now the applicant must have a bachelor's degree in journalism. Ah, well...

It's a bright, beautiful, and breezy day; and I have not yet taken my walk, due to slideshow! Must remedy that...

Saw a report in the noon news of _another_ barn fire in Albion. Plus one in Gardiner. Is there something you're not telling us?

Honest to ghod, he's in the Rock.

And, besides, he doesn't do that stuff anymore.

...unless there's a really good reason, of course...

Hi Rolanni, D.Peters here. Really, I must take the time to set up an LJ account and not be anon all the time. Advice, if you want old old old job apply anyway! Ignore HR fog of the advert and look up someone you know at the old place (networking contact) to give you the "current situation" and help you get your res to the hiring manager. The company I work for had said Bach needed, but they hired me and the company tuition plan paid for my last year in school. Now I've a BA in accounting and will be starting my MBA in January. Not that I'm wishing accountancy on you, but don't let the "Wish List" job posting stop you - you have the strength of 10 Journalism BAs because your heart is pure and you've spent a lifetime slaving over a hot keyboard/typewriter. Go get 'em!

Three minutes and you're in with a freebie account! Do it!

This is good advice, but not as easy as it looks in this case. The people I worked with Back When have all been fired and/or early retired in past desperate attempts to save money and preserve the paper(s) (one in Waterville, one in Augusta, one in Portland)and keep them under local management. This failed, and all three papers are now owned by a newspaper company based in Seattle.

Three minutes for the form - a little longer to find a handle not taken, but worth it to no longer be "anon".

Sorry to hear the paper's story, so many companies have gone through similar gyrations. I've been with places that have gbeen sold and seen good teams scattered.

Hope your application for the part time job now turned full time pans out!

I second THAT motion! You have already proven that you can do the job.
One Question? Why did you leave that job?

Okay two? Why do you want it again?

It left me. I was low copyeditor on the totem pole and the Sentinel was in the midst of its...third?... bloodbath in a frantic effort to save money. Didn't work, and shortly after it was sold -- and sold again.

Okay two? Why do you want it again?

Not sure that I do. I liked the job and I was good at it. I don't, however, think it would be the same without Phil to grouch at me, and the paper running a couple thigh bones short of a whole skeleton.

Read Barnburner and Gunshy yet?

Hey, you could always find a new Phil to grouch at--of course, if your paper has been bought by an Evil Media Empire [IMHO, the News Corporation comes to mind as per comments made from serfs--I mean reporters--who've fled the Dark Castle], even a steady paycheck and benefits may not be enough.

I also would like to echo a previous commentor's comment--I've been told that, despite my lack of Ye Olde Parchmente certifying me as a Professional Journalist, I could probably land a decent job at a daily now that I've passed the 10-year mark as a freelancer.
