Web of the Trident
We very much regret to report that Web of the Trident, scheduled for hardcover release by Meisha Merlin on March 15, has been indefinitely delayed. This means that we don't know when, or if, it will be released. Yes, we are aware that Amazon.com is reporting its imminent availability, and that bn.com is accepting pre-orders for what it states is a March 28 release. They are, alas, working with outdated information. If this situation changes, you'll hear it here.
Baen Webscriptions
The second Korval bundle, Phase Change, (consisting of the novels Scout's Progress, I Dare, Crystal Soldier, Crystal Dragon, Balance of Trade, and a new introduction by the authors) is now available from Baen Webscriptions
We like to hear from our readers, but please don't write to ask if-or-when the short stories and/or other novels will be available from Baen. As far as we know, Toni Weisskopf and our agent are still talking about the notion of offering those works as Webscriptions. When we know more than that, we'll definitely let y'all know.
Fledgling
The response to Fledgling continues to amaze us. Chapter 8 will be posted on Monday, March 19 and released as a simultaneous podcast. Check out the Fledgling page for more information, or subscribe to the podcast here
We are extremely grateful to Sam Chupp of Fireheart Foundry for taking on the work of reading and producing the podcast edition.
Crystal Soldier Mass Market
The Ace edition of Crystal Soldier is now available at a bookstore near you!
Crystal Dragon Trade Edition
The Meisha Merlin trade paper edition of Crystal Dragon is in stores now; you should find it very near the Meisha Merlin mass market edition of The Tomorrow Log we told you about last time.
Liaden Universe® Companion, Volume One Near Sellout
A book dealer tells us that he is returning several unopened cases of Liaden Universe® Companion, Volume One to SRM Publisher in the near future because of a change in his convention schedules. He's sending them media mail, so it may take us awhile to get them. At the moment we have less than 1 case in hand - around 30 copies. We have meetings with several printers in the near future to discuss going to a mass-market size reprint, but there's no firm decision on that. In any case, the first edition of LUC#1 is just about gone. Thanks for all the support!
Liaden Universe® Companion, Volume Two
Advance subscriptions are now being taking for Liaden Universe® Companion, Volume Two, scheduled for an August release from SRM Publisher, Ltd. As of this writing, advance subscriptions have funded about half of the amount needed to go to press.
This project will collect Changeling, Phoenix, Heirloom, Naratha's Shadow, Veil of the Dancer, Quiet Knives, This House, Lord of the Dance, Sweet Waters... in one full-size hardcover/trade paper volume.
However, the success of the project depends on you. Pre-subscribers will not only get their books signed, but they will have the warm, fuzzy feeling of knowing that they have contributed to the publication of this volume, and that it would not have happened without them.
Go here for more information.
Even More Podcast and Second Life News
"Electric Words," a talk given by Steve Miller at the Second Life Library on Info Island on March 11 is now online for your listening pleasure.
We need to thank Second Life Residents Anhayla Lycia, Shawna Montgomery, Pam Ribble, Alexander Basiat.... and a host of others who helped with the "Electric Words" presentation at Info Island. Despite some in-world technical difficulties that crew got us online and at work -- except that Sharon's avatar Kit ended up voiceless throughout. In the tradition of "the show must go on" the joint talk turned into a monologue for Steve. Do check out the podcast!

Date: 2007-03-21 08:53 am (UTC)I don't know anything about publishing, but couldn't you download the book onto a DVD and sell it that way. Wouldn't that be cheaper. I would buy it on DVD and then buy the actual book. I think a lot of people would.
Thank-you
Letitia

Date: 2007-03-21 10:48 am (UTC)The short form is that Web is under contract to Meisha Merlin. There are all kinds of rights issues, Legal Stuff(tm), and publisherfoo tangled up in who owns the right to publish which, when and in what order.
So...good suggestion about the DVD, but no -- we can't.

Meisha Merlin hasn't published anything in the the various digital formats as far as I know.
Also why put Web on a DVD when it's so much easier ans faster on the Baen web subscription service. Once the legal matters are dealt with.
Does Rolanni and Kinzel sell books to the publishers in multiple formats (hardcover, trade paperback, mass market paperback,eBook, audio book,CD-ROM/DVD-RAM) or a specify format? Or each book deal is different.
Say it ain't so...
Date: 2007-03-25 05:29 pm (UTC)If it's just a matter of being patient, I can do that. I bought Agent of Change/Conflict of Honors/Carpe Diem when they were published by Del Rey in 1988/89 and have kept them since then and through several relocations in my constantly-in-the process-of-being-purged-collection-because-I-keep-buying-new-books-that-also-need-shelfspace. When you found a new publisher and the stories of the Liaden Universe continued I was delighted and have bought it all. Including Agent of Change/Conflict of Honors/Carpe Diem all over again "pour encourages les autres" or as might be more appropriate since we're talking about books "les auteurs". OK "écrivains" if we're being picky (just thought I would save someone pointing it out to me.)
Dropping in to say thanks
