Since y'all have been so generous with the titles of your favorite books; I thought the least I could do was to share mine. For the purposes of this discussion, "favorite books" are those that I have re-read more times than I can count, and which I reach for like an old blanket when I just want to be...comfortable.

Hellspark, Janet Kagan
The War for the Oaks, Emma Bull

The Best of Myles, Myles na'Gopaleen
The Third Policeman, Myles na'Gopaleen

Cuckoo's Egg, CJ Cherryh
Strong Poison, Dorothy Sayers

War for the Oaks! Hellflower! The Blue Sword! Mikey likes it!

I must raid your bookshelf. :)

Interesting that your favorite Heyer books include These Old Shades, which didn't do much for me. I prefer her comedies. Hence, Arabella.

Re-reading my favorite bits of Conflict of Honors (okay, that's most of the book. WHAT) left me giggling. When Shan yos'Galan puts in an appearance, there is likely to be at least the occasional snicker. Even in the middle of an Yxtrang invasion.

When I was Very Young, Thorne Smith's Turnabout was one of my favorite books. It made me laugh until I cried the first time I read it.

Well, based on that list I clearly need to find Farwell Horizontal by KW Jeter since everything else is on the second floor frequently read bookcases (well, not My Father's Dragon, it doesn't fit - it is in the guest room lying in wait for unsuspecting child visitors.)

Hi there -- I was doing a random friend-of-friend walk, and after checking out your comfort book list, where we appear to have something like 14 books in common, I figured you had to be worth reading on a regular basis.

No response required (I just read your profile), but I wanted to say Hi so you wouldn't be surprised at receiving a random comment every so often.

I finally read this last week and loved it. Would you recommend another book by this same author? It didn't look like she wrote too many after Hellspark?

She wrote the Star Trek novel Uhura's Song and a book of short stories called Mirabile, which are both of the coolness.

And if you go to janetkagan.com you can also read some stores (some excerpts and some whole)that she's written.

Just finished Hellspark again for maybe the 15th time, and it has great staying power.

Also on my comfort shelves (next to the original Liad trilogy), and have read many of the others. See a few I need to look for....

If you don't have Heyer's _Grand Sophy_, I have an extra copy I could send you.

Thanks for Janet Kagan

Hellspark was a very fun read, up there with Liaden and Brian Daley's Hobart & Fitzhugh for modern space opera. But now I'm wishing Ms. Kagan had written more in this interesting universe.
