So the folks at the top of the hill on the next road have a big white goose. Said goose has lately taken to wandering rather far afield. Yesterday morning, it was a good block away from home, down by the newly wetted wetlands, showing attitude to passing traffic, which included [livejournal.com profile] kinzel and I in the redoubtable Argent and the dump truck directly behind us.

This morning, the goose was rather further afield, down by the impromptu lumberyard, on the opposite side of the road -- and charged the car as I drove (slowly) past, honking the while. A fowl with a temper and a deathwish...

Hi there, I just recently friended you, and just had to comment on this. :) The Canada geese in Research Triangle Park, NC, have been known to bring all traffic to a halt on occasion on Alexander Drive while escorting their young across the road. They'll honk and hiss at the cars heading up and down our driveway - how dare we drive on the road while they're waddling across! I have even witnessed one very protective male "directing traffic", seeming to motion we humans in our car to drive on in the one lane not occupied by his mate and young. That particular male would make a wonderful security guard. :)

The only fowl meaner than a goose is a swan. However, swans, while bigger and nastier are less likely to chase you down a city street.

ps: Black swans hate patent leather shoes.

I've not seen any swans inside RTP that I can remember, but I've heard that they can be mean.

http://www.wral.com currently has some video of a family of Canada geese obeying the traffic lights while crossing the street in Raleigh, NC. :)

Geese are a public menace, and should be regulated. ("When geese are outlawed, only outlaws will have geese...")

Turkeys are the menace in our area. These guys have been wandering around for a few years now. They had traffic stopped on a freeway on ramp once. We were all out of our cars and trying to shoo them away, but they were quite clear that this was THEIR ROAD!
I took this picture when they flew into our yard. They're a lot bigger than they look--about three feet tall.

Turkeys in your area are only three feet tall? Where I live they're mostly about 5' 10" & drive utes (pickup trucks)... sorry, I couldn't resist.

http://www.random-factors.com/ also carries the Darwin fish, as well as music by the Leslie Fish, along with lots of other talented filkers, more of whom need to be writing Liaden songs.
