It's raining. Since we've been under a wild fire watch for the past while, this is a Good Thing, though it does make prepping the campus for the Big Event at the end of the month something of a challenge. I dawdled outside in-between rain showers this afternoon, watching the groundskeepers score and then roll up long strips of grass. Seems that a carpet is laid out over the walkway to the chapel, and that pesky grass rumples it. I hope and expect that the grass rolls will be put down again, after commencement...

The mail has been interesting, too.

The German check arrived! *pats German check gently on head and kisses its cheek*

Narbonic Four arrived! *resolutely puts Narbonic Four on the Mencken table until chores are done, but who am I fooling, really*

Annoying Rural Development annual mortgage paperwork arrived. *boo! hiss! annoying paperwork!*

Speaking of annoying paperwork, the grant applications that I'm filling out are...really annoying. *sighs*

...and I'm still not done chewing over The Prestige, which we watched last weekend, and which is so very deeply disturbing on so many levels...

Which doesn't get the SRM bookkeeping done, of course. So I guess I'd better get back to it...

Agreed, took me a bit to come to grips with how creepy that was

Oh certainly the sod is rolled up and put somewhere behind a maintenance building. When I was in college, we found a baby robin that had been pushed out of the nest. Teaching her to peck for worms was a real chore; and especially it was a chore gathering enough worms for her.

Fortunately, we found the college turf farm, where sod was cut but not yet distributed to bare patches. To feed the robin, we would roll up sod squares and scoop up the worms -- nice, slender, tender worms.

*delurks*

I just finished reading The Prestige and thought that it had managed to be less creepy than the movie. Except that it turned out to be creepier, but more subtly so, and in ways that sneak into my dreams and make them creepier too.

Yay, Narbonic!!! The evil calls to you...

just pondering. does bookkeeping ever get done? or is it like taxes and other pains, something that may be temporarily abated but never really finished?

And now that I've avoided my work for a few more minutes :-)
