Over on Ebay, Mr. Highnoon66 is offering a DVD full of a staggering number of works by your favorite SF writers including John Ringo, Elizabeth Moon, Catherine Asaro, Eric Flint, Ryk E. Spoor, Lois McMaster Bujold, Dave Freer, SL Viehl, Debra Doyle, John Scalzi, Kage Baker, Lawrence Watt-Evans, Jerry Pournelle, Wen Spencer, Kristine Smith, Rosemary Edghill, Andre Norton -- you get the idea.

Those writers who read here may want to check the listing for your name; those readers who see favorite authors on the list may wish to bring this to their attention:

Dang! As much as I would love a DVD like this to be available I'm not going to bid on something so clearly illegal and unfair to the authors.

I'd also suggest giving Toni and Arnold over on teh Bar a heads-up - a goodly portion of that looks like it might be stuff off Webscriptions and/or the Free Library. Baen is not adverse to stuff being shared from the Free Library, but specify it shouldn't be sold.

(Stupid people making harder to get legitimate e-books where money can actually go to the authors. **GRRRRRR**)

I posted a twin of the above note in Binjali's; I know Arnold will see it there.

Hmm, interesting question - with the exception of Baen's Universe, they don't do PDF's. Since this is all PDF's, some stuff might have started out there (maybe the RTFs?) and been converted to PDF.

It looks like the same item / guy that they got shut down a month or so ago.

I've reported this item as a clear violation of eBay policy vi their reporting tool. Here's hoping they do something about it.

when you see something like this on Ebay, report it to them immediately. They're very good about pulling accounts.

I did write to Management, but, being an Ebay Newbie thought there was probably a Better Way that I didn't know about. [livejournal.com profile] scarlettina, wiser in the ways of Ebayness knows where they keep the reporting tool and isn't afraid to use it.

Ahh...if you scroll all the way down to "other options" right before the screen goes from white to blue at the very bottom of the page there is a "report this item" which will take you to a set of drop down menus describing various possible problems with the item. When you get to the one you want there will be a link to report the item - for which you'll need the item number.

The relevant link in this case seems to be http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/replica-counterfeit.html

I wonder how many people have to report it before EBAY leaps to take it down? I know they will eventually, but they haven't yet.

Went to the section of eBay rules, and clicked on Report Item under the Copyright Rules section:

"5700 Sci Fi E Books - pdf files On 1 dvd Over 3 Gigs
Item number: 320129371092

This person does not own the e-rights to 5700 works. He is stealing from both the dead and the living. Pull this. Ban him if possible."

I'm wondering if the specified user didn't get his account hijacked - 99.4% positive feedback since sometime in 1999. I didn't go check out the feedback, but if they were this clueless, they should have either a lower feedback, or they should have had their account pulled a long time ago

One quick email to ebay should close this guy down. It's all pirated material.
