Buzzy Multimedia, the kind, true, and wonderful folken who are producing the audiobook of Local Custom, have let us know that they've signed Michael Shanks, aka Dr. Daniel Jackson of Stargate: SG-1 fame, as narrator. Rumor has it that the book (as a multiple-CD set) will hit the shelves in January. YAY!

The day was scattered, despite which, Things were accomplished.

Writing was done -- some tweaks and twizzles on an existing scene to make it stronger, and to give the hero a chance to get rid of his cloak before he enters the parlor. Sigh.

Groceries were got and [livejournal.com profile] kinzel made his appointment with the referral doctor, who was able to report that All was Copacetic, which is more than lovely.

Upon returning home, we found a care package from [livejournal.com profile] hecateshound, which, among other delights, continues to expand the hedgehog theme that has been ongoing these last ...fifteen years? It could be fifteen years. I suspect [livejournal.com profile] hecateshound of having this particular hedgehog-themed item done to order. Otherwise, well -- it's just wrong. Also included in the box, copies of the RT Bookclub review for Balance of Trade, of which we could ask no more.

Paperwork from the Maryland State Archive still hasn't arrived, so my passport application remains on hold (insert snarling here).

They want the original birth certificate (as in with notarized stamps and all?) Did your courthouse burn down, or is this just proof that you're from the future and the time machine broke?

Got the "original" birth certificate from the City of My Birth and sent it in with the application. [livejournal.com profile] kinzel, who sent his application in at the same time, received his passport within two weeks. I got a snarky letter from the Passport Office indicating that I needed to provide a sealed document proving that I had so legally changed my name more than half my lifetime ago.

(I note that, had I changed my surname upon legalizing my arrangement with [livejournal.com profile] kinzel, I would have had to prove damnall. I admit to some feelings of ill-use, here, in case you couldn't tell *g*.)

The event in question happened so long ago that the court that did the deed no longer has the record in their files, and referred me to the State Archive. It's this second round of paperwork I'm waiting for.

My immediate thought is--if Social Security is satisfied that You are You--what is Passport's problem?

Sympathies--hope paperwork arrives soon, you might want to go somewhere (out of the country, who knows? They might let you take pictures without a permit....)
