The Bush Administration is apparently not nearly as tired of me as I am of it. Thus late in the season, they're still frisky, and have launched a new game, redefining "contraception" as "abortion." Go ahead and read the articles, you know you want to:

New York Times

The Huffington Post

Planned Parenthood -- also links to the NYT and the Huffington Post; a protest letter you may modify, sign and send; and the Official Planned Parenthood press release.

Oh great! 'Cause overpopulation isn't a problem or anything. And having more children than you can take of is a good idea too. NOT.

And people wonder why The Handmaid's Tale scared the bejesus out of me! ::squeezes eyes and mutters over and over "go forth and vote, go forth and vote, go forth and vote..."::

I was just talking to a friend about that story after reading the article.

I've been watching the evolution towards a theocrazy (sic) for the last 10 years since I moving to the U.S. and with every new policy that book/movie becomes less SF and more real life. :(

::nod nod:: It's why I'm constantly looking at people I know and going, "Are you registered to vote?" and when they nod, I ask, "Did you vote?" and when they say no, I take out the stainless steel baseball bat and... uh... ummm.... ::looks innocently at the ceiling and begins to hum tunelessly::

ahem

::bows graciously with right hand up and out and left hand palm down to floor:: Would you care for a glass of wine? Red? White? Jade? I'm afraid that some of my cousins have a tendency not to give as much attention to the proper care of government as perhaps we might prefer. ::flicks left hand back:: Have you tried the pastry? It's quite good. I believe that the fruit was picked not an hour ago. Forgive me, I must make my excuses ::bows hand to heart:: I pray you will enjoy the next ten years better than the last.

As a health care provider, and member of a group practice, I have additional concerns. We already have 3 physicians in our group who refuse to prescribe any form of birth control besides the Creighton method (read rhythm method). We have respected their decision, but anticipated that any new partners would be required, in their contract, to agree to provide contraception. That way everyone could be satisfied. The idea that we might be restricted from doing this, and end up with next to no one prescribing BCPs or other methods, is scary. I'm a Republican, but this is hard to swallow.

I really wish I were more surprised.

Heaven forbid actually encouraging people to use birth control, so they won't want or need abortions...

I diatribed (license) nicely on the PP e-mail, secret agendas, oppression, marginalization, that kind of thing. Gave me a nice little spleen venting buzz for the morning.
