So, having finished a book, and mine partner another, I spent yesterday and today filing, moving last year's records into the paperbox that will become their final resting place, entering the Big Freaking Pile of Data that I've been shoving into a file folder since early November and refusing to deal with. Including... ahem...two checks. I still haven't quite finished the data entry, but thats what tomorrow's for. Steve and I need to have a creative conference regarding Saltation and the-as-yet-unnamed-sequel to Scout's Progress (which might get given the working title for the book that became Scout's Progress. Unfortunately, the Perfect Title for the sequel is Pilot's Choice, but that's probably not such a good idea.)

Anyhow, in and around all this fun and frivolity, the last of the boxes containing the Stuff to assist in Steve's move from his dead deskbox to the new one arrived today. I had ordered in some memory for my computer, which also arrived today. Or So I Thought.

Imagine, if you will, my Utter Surprise and Dismay upon opening the box that was supposed to hold two sticks of 2GB memory and finding instead an unlocked Sony Ericsson G900. With a packing slip for a guy who lives in Cambridge and is probably pretty concerned about where his phone is by now. I called Tiger Direct, but the kid who finally! answered the phone disconnected me. I sent them a message via the web-form and received a reply to the effect that they'd get around to me in three or four days. I really hope the guy in Cambridge doesn't need this phone.

So, anyway. I'm tired. The filing was, for a couple hours, caught up. That was nice. Unfortunately dealing with the folder produced...filing. Sigh. It is as I have long suspected: bookkeeping is Bad for You.

I'm gonna go get a glass of wine and a sandwich. Tomorrow's another day. And the day after the day after that...

...is Monday.

My husband says that he thinks that the shipping department at Tiger Direct either employs idiots or has a connection with Tony Soprano. They ordered two 50" flat screen TV/Monitors. They were ordered in early/mid September. The first one finally showed up in mid-November. The second one showed up the second week of December. They were calling the personal rep every two-three days. The rep kept saying, "I'll get back to you by the end of the day." RiiiiIIIIIiiiight. He likes them. He just doesn't think much of their shipping department.

Don't think of the day after the day after tomorrow. We're having sushi. Despite what the cats think.

And now I am more glad than ever that I have two Tiger Direct stores within easy driving distance from me, instead of having to depend on them shipping. One may be at a mall whose parking lot was designed on crack, and the other may be cramped, but at least I can go into the stores and get what I need. Here's hoping the memory you ordered arrives soon!

If you have an accountant he'll think that's heresy. Especially with both personal and business taxes to deal with.

Come to think of it the IRS wouldn't approve either.

On the other paw, the cats would agree with you.

As-yet-untitled sequels

The edge between dreams and reality is fuzzing again. Somewhere, somehow, I had it firmly fixed in my mind (always a slippery slope) that the sequel to Scout's Progress was Shadow Partner. Went zooming back thru lots of entries to try and find where I dreamed that up to no avail. Am I dreaming or is that the working title to something else? Jenny from WA

It's the title to one of the stories in the latest chapbook, Eidolon.

... which I received a few weeks ago, and immediately read through. There are times when it doesn't pay to be a fast reader. Sigh...

I will miss my Monday Chapters

Here's a plea to consider serializing the sequel to Scouts progress. I have really enjoyed reading Fledgling and Saltation as they came out.

Think of the checks!
Think of the glamor!

Please consider doing it again.

Thanks,

consider serializing the sequel to Scouts progress.

Can't; it's already under contract and we've received our advance.

How about "snippetting" the first half, chapter by chapter.

Other Baen authors get to do that - why not you?

Obviously, because "other Baen authors" are more organized than we are.

Besides which the snippetting doesn't start until the full book is written and scheduled for publication, with the timing decided based on what the author's comfortable with releasing.

Rolanni, if you two decide to do that you should contact either Eric Flint or Drak Bibliophile (name on Baen's board, not sure what RL name is) and one of those will probably snippet from the file you send them. At least that's how I understand it works from previous comments they've made.

This is the answer I expected. The return question is if there are enough cycles to consider _another_ tale. Given the amount of work you have queued, I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is no, but I can think of at least five or six other stories that I'd eagerly pay my subscription for. I suspect that the one that follows Saltation is right out, but there are a number of other back threads that could be equally wonderful. This includes some of the other tales that I don't really expect to be picked up now that the original publisher's gone.

If time does not permit, then thank you for the last two years worth of Monday lunch breaks. It's been fun, inspirational, and most of all entertaining.
