Sunshine! Man, what a day to drive out to Belfast, or down to Rockland, or, or...

Ahem. Writing Weekend. Must. Be. Strong.

Earlier this month my boss at the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning (as it was called then) left us for that Other Place, where she has many fur folk awaiting her. Dr. Young was quite the woman -- headstrong, smart, hot-tempered, capable of both pettishness and of staggering kindness. The last thing she said to me, on the last day I worked for her, as I went out the door with my lover, eager to start my life as a writer, was: "You're going to starve."

Too close to right.

Slept in this morning, to make up for a ill-dreamt night. Honestly, isn't it enough that I go to the day-job? Do I have to have nightmares about it, too? Had, as I drowsed there, with my head on Steve's shoulder and Mozart curled up against my back, a Minor Plot Ephiphany. *rubs hands* This is going to be So Much Fun...

And, now, another cup of coffee and so, to work.

I will enjoy the sunshine in your honor, as I drive to Portland. It IS a lovely day.

Sorry for your ....loss? Sounds like she might have been quite a mentor. It is not everyone who can be bluntly honest with their underlings. We are, especially as women, conditioned to be overly kind and positive.

I used to have nightmares about work. Glad to know that yours are at least a little bit productive.

Do you ever have nightmares about your writing job?

If not, then you have Your Answer.

PS I now _NEVER_ dread driving to work (at the bookstore). There were times when I felt ill
thinking about Yet Another Confrontation over requirements written by people who fail to
understand that they must be tested. The requirements not the people. PAH, begone evil
energy - I don't do that no more.
