Tonight, we lose an hour of sleep. In order to console myself for this loss, I not only slept in, but took a nap. I have not yet answered my email. Yes, I am a slug. I have hopes for tomorrow.

We are now officially in pre-con pre-prep. Steve has discovered a Biscuit Factory within walking distance of StellarCon's hotel, which sounds...uncommonly dangerous to me. It seems that the hotel serves breakfast, no lunch, and "limited" bar food dinner, so we may be experimenting in that direction. Can anybody recommend a good Italian restaurant in High Point? Greek? Lunch joint? How about a Mongolian Grill?

It does look like it's going to be Quite Warm in Points South at the end of next week. Not as warm as Atlanta in August (my ghod, that was awful!), but -- 72F/22C? In March? I mean, today it was 50F/10C at my house, which was Downright Unnatural. Also? The snow is turning into mud.

I figure I'll get more writing in tomorrow, but Monday and Tuesday will be mostly consumed with running around doing the I-hate-to-pack boogie, putting working files on The Leewit, finding wires and con clothes and freaking out the cats. We'll be handing the keys over to the house-sitter on Wednesday afternoon, traveling down to Boston, over-nighting there, then ridin' 16 hours with nothin' much to do, arriving at High Point in the wee small hours of Friday morning.

There will then be a Con. I'm greatly looking forward to StellarCon; especially since I had to miss Boskone this year, and because we get South so seldom. We'll be doing an interview, panels, and a reading, swanking around with our fellow Guests of Honor, and just having a blast. Come on by, if you can. It's going to be fun!

We have a nebulous dinner plan for Saturday night. Would like it to be a surprise if possible. Is a restaurant we've been to before in the area. Will work around your con schedule. Our treat.

Oops. We have an equally nebulous message from An Editor that she would like to take us to dinner on Saturday night. Could a regroup on Sunday work?

On another (not completely unrelated) note, I was tickled to find, whilst visiting "My Account" at the Big Brazilian River today, that for the first time I saw "Based on what you've ordered, you might want to consider ordering Fledgling, complete with the little front-cover mock-up and everything. :-)

Ah, North Carolina in the middle of ACC Tournament time, ain't it grand? :) Looks like Greg Fishel and the Weatherbeans (one of which I used to work with at my previous TV job) are currently calling for next Friday to have a high of 47 with a 40% chance of rain, and next Saturday to have a high of 52 and to be partly cloudy that night. http://www.wral.com if you'd like to check, WRAL's in Raleigh. And yes, we've had wacky weather here this week - Monday it snowed, and as I'm typing this it is now Sunday morning, nearly 5am, and our high today is supposed to be around 83. Welcome to NC weather!

I'm wanting to make a day trip from Durham on the Saturday of the con if things work out here schedule and money-wise, and I was looking on StellarCon's site for a schedule of panels but I can't find anything listed anywhere, am I missing something? I didn't even know that High Point had a con until you posted about it here, thank you for the info! :) Have a safe trip down here and back, and hope you have a good time! :)

was looking on StellarCon's site for a schedule of panels but I can't find anything listed anywhere,

They're just now finalizing it, and having to scramble a bit because Uncle Timmy, the Fan GOH, has had a sudden medical necessity and will not be able to come to the con.

We got our schedules in the morning email. I'll post it -- after coffee!

I believe that there is a reason I've heard locals call the place 'Hotlanta'. On the other hand, I've also been to Atlanta in January and seen quantities of snow, it seems they get it both ways.

I just checked all of my timekeeping devices, one of which gets it from the UK national radio signals, and it seems that the UK does not change time this weekend. Your post did get me a bit worried...

Atlanta can get quantities of snow in January, if by 'quantities' you mean 'less than an inch'. (Actually, I believe they got several inches in this last storm--most unusual.)

It was definitely several inches. Before 2001. Hey, I'm in the UK, where we seldom get more than about 6" (even this winter I think the most I've seen was about 6") even though we are at higher latitude than anywhere in the US...

It's that darn Gulf Stream.

Now that you mention it, I believe Atlanta has had some heavier snowfalls more recently. I haven't been there in January in more than 20 years, and we never once had more than an inch a winter when I was a kid. Ice storms, on the other hand...

House-sitter?

House-sitter? Surely a competent cat-sitter can keep an eye on the rest of the house as well.

All I can say is, it's a good thing you don't have to change the time on your planet :)
