edited to fix the spelling of Clarence's name, sigh

Somehow yard work, house cleaning, grocery shopping, and laundry don't seem more interesting than working on a novel to me. (We did dance last night and will dance again tomorrow afternoon and I am trying to finish my daughter's quilt which seem a bit more interesting, but still not as interesting as writing.)

I went to see a movie -- Dragonball Evolution. I liked it. Fun martial arts fluff, based on the manga/anime.

Tomorrow I am going to visit my friends with the new twins and hold babies.

I am on the Death March to the end of the final book in a series. About 5000 words to go, averaging 2500-3000 words/day.

Am boring, me.

Could be thrilling. It sorta depends upon whether your bailing or mopping up.

Word count is GOOD. Fifty-seven thousand, YAY!

I am reading your blog as a method of further procrastination. My brother and sister-in-law arrive tomorrow night and MUCH more shoveling-out of the house is needed.

On another subject entirely, you might be interested in dropping by CJ Cherryh's blog one of these days http://www.cherryh.com/WaveWithoutAShore/ and seeing if she and Lynn Rosen and Jane Fancher have gotten their e-book offers up and running. They have retrieved the rights to some of their long out-of-print backlist and are aiming to make them available. Sort of a personal version of Webscriptions. All part of the movement of authors taking back their livelihoods from publishers who no longer seem to even be literate. (SRM and Baen excepted)

Grass seed on the front lawn. repotted 2 fiddle-head fig trees (named Edgar and Edgar Jr.. - made from a cutting of Edgar) in a single much larger pot. Added staking so that Edgar Sr.. stands upright, instead of the unsightly sag he had developed over the last 5 years. Sr. is now nearly 8 feet tall and only fits in the tallest part of our living room with the vaulted ceiling.

Sunday, visiting a Green Bay Akita breeder. Puppies!

70% through coding a Flash game due for Tuesday. I think it was a beautiful day outside but didn't spend more than a few minutes admiring the blooms in my garden before I went back to staring at the computer screen. The graphics are quite good even if the code is not very elegant.

Saturday: buy gardening stuff (tomato plants, humus+manure, lots of flowers, 2 new pots). Lug home and enlist spousal help to get stuff from van to deck.

Sunday: planting and related activities

Next two weeks: praying that the DC area misses it's usual late April frost because I am sick of winter and am pushing the envelope.

Pregnant daughter and son-in-law arrived from San Diego yesterday. Today was a double shower at my house, baby shower for one daughter, bridal shower for another. This culuminates weeks of planning and yard work and cleaning and cooking...

We've got a houseful of kids (20-something kids) for tonight, and breakfast tomorrow.

Pancakes. Sausage. Bacon. Fruit.

Spent most of today at hobby job. Today selling ammunition and a few guns (big concealed carry license class qualification shoot today). Too much of the day spent in a fruitless search of our suppliers' websites for available quantities of ammunition. None found. Obama has certainly stimulated firearm and ammunition sales!!!! Can't even find .25 auto for G hd's sake.

We (the human slave aka me and four 4 months old and one 5 months old Maine Coon kitten) just stopped for the night on the way back home from a cat show in St. Louis.

Milo, the 5 months old got a Best of Breed and a 2nd Best of Breed in a class of 16 Maine Coon kittens (and a bunch of them were older than him and he had two 7 months old in his color class to get by first) and he got a 2nd best Allbreed kitten final and an 8th best Allbreed final! Yay!

And to put icing on the cake one of my 4 months old, Tip aka Firemountain Calm Skies, who is a really funky color aka cameo tabby with white, possibly shaded, for those in the know, got a 2nd Best of Breed in one ring over pretty much every other cat who was older than him.

I'm mighty proud and the 7 hours spent bathing and the 7 hour drive there and now the other 4 1/2 left to get home tomorrow were well worth it. :)

And we get to do it all over again next week, hopefully with another good show at the end of it.

Exhausted but happy with 5 kittens gamboling about... I'm off to bed.

...and who is getting bored.

Me, I'm writing! Big surprise, that.

I've discovered that I have to generate more minor characters to get the story moving where I want it to go.

I know not about anyone else, but I'm having a ball!

Yeah, booksellers can be boring too.

I had an author from Fairfax, VA in for a book release/signing Saturday. It's a debut novel and he was just overjoyed to be here. I'd already sold one of his books to Barb (who couldn't be here that day) and as I handed it to him to sign, he said, "First bookstore sale! Yay!" The only time I noticed how nice and warm it was, was the moment I went out to have my picture taken with the author in front of the Author Signing Today sign. That signing was the highlight of the weekend, sigh.

Lots of paperwork/bookkeeping, sold a few books, made coffee, bought take-out and ate it, fell asleep on the sofa instead of finishing my videos.

I have to say - your word-count accretion at least shows accomplishment/closure. Baby steps and all that.

This is actually a very interesting thread. Whoda thunk?

Spent yesterday giving teenage daughter her birthday present -- a shopping trip and makeover at the posh mall upstate. Best part was halfway through the haircut when she got the unmistakable "Okay, that's ENOUGH girly fussing!" look on her face, so we skipped out for pizza and ice cream and the rest of the afternoon at the bookstore.

Today laundry and theodicy. Not necessarily in that order.

Errr... petted dogs. Fixed a broken link between my computer and my husband's yesterday (the problem was a firewall update that tried to eat Manhattan). Petted dogs some more. Did updates and backups to the church computers. Left a note that one of the computers is broken, and I don't have the time/equipment to troubleshoot it. Came home and petted dogs.

Now I'm getting ready to mow. Whee.

On the plus side, Matt brought home a couple more suet cages and a small case of suet, and we planted more stuff. Plus, we've got a visiting redwinged blackbird, which was a nice surprise - this year is the first time I've seen him. No hummingbirds, but we just put out the syrup, so they probably haven't found us yet.

I also saw a woodpecker earlier this week, which was totally cool. It's only the second one I've seen in the thirteen years I've lived here.

Just got back from a friends 950 acre farm where we drove my pair of ponies. It was their first time going away overnight and they were so good! For those of you not in the know, horses can get very nervous away from home. The weather was great, 70F, sunny Saturday, and overcast with a few sprinkles Sunday. I'm so proud of my lil critters.

Word count boring? Writing boring? Not at all - what's boring is diving to the bottom of the chest freezer to clean out the unidentifiable stuff at the bottom - not fun when you are as vertically challenged as I am! The only plus this entire weekend (it's now Sunday evening) is that we managed to get the most recent batch of home-brew bottled - that is a truly lovely thing. Sadly, tomorrow is Monday, of which I think there are far too many in a given year, so it's back to work for money instead of work for the joy of accomplishing something I enjoy.

Acted as room host and timer for all-state high-school solo and ensemble contest. In four hours, did thirty set-ups and announcements and timings. Eight or nine quite good performers, and two outstanding performers. None were abysmal. Spent afternoon assuring younger child that Strep med would /too/ work on the strep, but not on the awful cold. Picked up husband 'round midnight from carpool back from Robotics Nationals in the Georgia Dome. Did research on clinical trials for friend newly diagnosed. Assured eldest child after abysmal performance on AP practice test that this is why it's called practice, and why there are still three weeks.
