In a surprise move, Blue Oyster Cult will be coming to Waterville, Maine on June 20 and playing a gig at Champions, the roughest club in the city (for the purposes of this inventory, I exclude The Chez, which is a bar, not a club). Tickets are $25 each.

*Rolanni wonders if this is worth getting her head broke for*

It is Turkey Season in our part of the world. As it happens, a turkey crossed the road in front of me and wandered down a driveway. The guy in the truck behind me pulled over and got out, rifle in hand. Note: Shooting from a paved road or within 100 feet of a dwelling (without owner's permission) is against the law. I hope he missed. I also hope that the car behind him was driven by a warden.

Speaking of surprise moves, the gay marriage bill has been passed by both the Maine House and Senate. It now needs to go back to the House for a final reading and then on to the governor, who has not yet made up his mind about signing it. I'm guessing he won't sign, but I'd love for him to disappoint me.

Quiet ol' morning, up here in the attic. I wonder where everyone is...

I think you should go to the show.

If the bird was stupid enough to walk on the road -- well it is a good thing someone took care of it.

I will admit the guy was stupid too. If you are not willing to follow reasonable gun laws, then you deserve to get caught.

When I was spending time on Staten Island this winter I discovered there's a big herd (flock?) of turkeys living near the hospital-- they wander around in great numbers in the roads and parking lots, bold as you please and totally fearless (since there's no turkey season in the city, and they're not impressed by cars).

I'm given to understand that Staten Island also has herds (flocks?) of deer now, likewise bold and unimpressed.

Totally off topic

I'm currently reading David Weber's Honorverse novel Storm from the Shadows.

Within the first 120 pages I've already encountered a heavy battle cruiser christened Hexapuma and an Old Earth cat of the Maine coon variety who has been named Dicey.

The latter probably named after the dice game he was won in.

Dicey looks to be getting more print time too.

Just thought inquiring felines might want to know.

Turkeys have an unfortunate habit of fighting their reflections. When these are on windows or glass sliders it can have shattering results.

CNN is reporting that your governor signed the bill not an hour after he received it.

Please sign your post. Thank you.

Man, I'm gonna have to make a macro.

I can find no website for Champions..where can I buy tickets?

But you can find the band's website, right? With the tour listing? And you can find the phone number for Champion's, right? And directions, too, first thing that popped up in my search. So you could like call them up?

What differences between a club and a bar? + do you have to be proposed and join or just sign in? Hours? Drinks? Food?

Why is turkey season in the spring? Aren't they skinny now? Isn't a rifle overkill?

Oh, that would make it more sporting. Hand-to-beak, mano-et-pajaros, let them wrassle those turkeys if'n they want to take them home! I like that idea.

Actually, from my experiences in various industries, it's always turkey season somewhere. And some of them don't even realize how hard they make it to soar with the eagles.

From what I can discover on various hunting sites, after breeding, when the hens leave the males' harems to sit on the nest, away, one assumes, from the hunters' attention, the males wander around gobbling, attempting to attract yet more females. What they succeed in attracting are more hunters, but by then, they will have reproduced. Dogs are not used in spring turkey seasons, but are seen in fall turkey seasons. I still wonder if they are skinny and tough now.

Or the wind, the sun or the rain . ..

I thought the guys from the Blue Oyster Cult have all retired. Since they were already historical by the time I started picking up music CD 20 or so years ago. Rolanni definitely should take in a gig. The band isn't going to be around much longer. Besides, 25 bucks is about what you spend in service charges for most artistic events in Montreal now.

Talking about Artistic events. Does Rolanni knows about the Cavalia horse show running until June 7th in Montreal. It's popular and pricey. Link to show below.

The show might extended their Montreal schedule until the WorldCon. Previous tours have many extra shows added.

I've got a t-shirt somewhere that says "BOC - On Tour Forever." We caught them last year at the NY State Fair and they were still great live. And it's very clear how much they still enjoy playing to a live audience.
You get the impression they'll stop touring when you pry the guitars out of their cold, dead hands . . .
