I've just read "Thames on Ice" by Helen Humphreys. It's a series of very short stories each one about one of the 40 times that the Thames has frozen. It is a tiny book, about 200 pages in a small format and quite beautifully done. I recommend adding it to your list to get from the library, even if it has to be through inter-library loan.
