In Which the Auctors Goof Off
Sunday, May 17th, 2009 04:42 pmWe went out to breakfast yesterday, early, with a mission in Augusta in our eye. The Plan was to do the errand in Augusta, then blitz back to the Confusion Factory so I could get with working on the novel. Except...
It was an Awfully Pretty Day and I haven't been anywhere except the day-job attic and my office at work for years, it seems like. So long, anyway, that an ultimately disappointing trip to Sam's Club was an outing fraught with delight. Long story short, when we got back in the car, I simply couldn't face the thought of sitting down yet again in front a computer screen and letting another gorgeous day go by.
So, we went to the ocean. It was foggy and cold at the ocean. That was Just Fine. We had lunch at JJ's, walked the beach 'til we got cold, then got back in the car and meandered up toward Portland, where Steve remembered that Whole Foods (the only Whole Foods in the Entire State of Maine) is located off of the Franklin Arterial. My goodness, what a pretty store! Almost worth moving to Portland for, if we could, yanno afford to live in Portland. Which I don't know how anybody can. Honestly, you'd think it was Boston or something.
Anyhow, we had us a time window-shopping mostly, though a block of New Zealand cheddar and a couple of bagels and some cookies for the road somehow got into our bag. We came on home the long way (made longer by the fact that the City of Augusta is -- suddenly! without warning! -- destroying the Cony Rotary, right there on Saturday evening, thereby making a Total Hash out of traffic, even with the cops supposedly directing, and -- we went to Plan B.)
Today, which was for most of it rainy, I largely spent on the corner of the sofa, The Leewit in lap and two! Maine Coon Cats assisting. Thirty-one hundred words and the end of the scene later, I'm ready to do something else, so I guess that'll be dishes, since Steve kindly took on the laundry and has very nearly slain it. After that, I'll copy some CDs so Steve will have music on his trip down to BaltiCon at the end of the week.
Tomorrow is Monday, which is really too bad. I've got the next scene mapped out and ready to roll. Could use another 3000+ word day.
Progress on Mouse and Dragon
The woman on the step had chocolate brown hair and light blue eyes. She was holding a lanky gray cat across her body from hip to shoulder, one hand supporting the lean belly, the other gripping just beneath the upper legs. The cat's head was against her shoulder. There was something about the long muzzle that suggested at least temporary resignation; the very tippiest tip of the scruffy tail was twitching. Slowly.
