Who's got plans for Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Day?

Me, I'm going to be working on Mouse and Dragon -- which is sorta fitting -- and I'm planning on posting an appreciation. The trouble is that there are so many writers who I appreciate, it's hard to choose just one, or three, or six.

How are you planning to mark the day?

If I really really REALLY have my act together I might post a short story for it, or something. But that requires finishing revisions by Friday, so I donno. Perhaps I will just be working, and making a post about the general coolness of the sfnal community. :)

For starters, I expect to be thinking back with pleasure to the glimpses of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers that I shall have had in the few days immediately preceding SFFW Day (4th Street Fantasy Convention with, among others, Jo Walton, Pat Wrede, and Lois McMaster Bujold).

And I will be reading something appropriate (though not by any of those authors, since I already have most all of their books) that I pledge to purchase while passsing through airports the day before SFFWD or I may even get daring and spend my Monday morning on an Expedition to Dreamhaven Books if it's not too far from the hotel. That would be beyond cool, as I'd simultaneously be supporting Writers and Independent Booksellers AND Bookworms like myself, who constantly seek new fodder. I've never had the free time when I've been in the TwinCities area.

SciFi Day!

Well, I plan on spending at least 4 or 5 hours reading some of my favorite sci-fi books and trying to get friends and family to buy a book at the local store!

I'm going to read my favorite authors (hmmmm, I do that every day but...) and send the ones that I can access online either a short thank-you note or an e-card. I've already pimped the Day. ::looks lovingly at the five bookcases upstairs:: I'll probably also cull some books to send to our military... as much as I have problems letting go of books (mine, I tell you! MINE!)... because, as I tell people, you can't go to the library at midnight and get Just The Right Book To Read™, they need good reading material.

I think I celebrate science fiction writer's day every day...I'm always buying/reading books. I've got books on order that aren't due to release for another 4 months. Books are like food to me and science fiction is my genre of choice.
I think about some of my favorite writers who are no longer among us and miss the stories they might have told.

Definitely read. If I have time, blog about my favorite writers. If I REALLY have time, I'll write!

Hmmm... I'll be at work, appreciating all the people who write and make it possible for me to have a job doing something I love. :)

Happy SFF Writers Day!

I've posted my first post of today, showcasing series by David Eddings, Robin Hobb, and Raymond E. Feist.

I'll soon be hosting a contest to win Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings, and then I'll have another post linking to other bloggers' celebratory posts! :)
