I was thinking precisely the same thing. Sasquatch, the 23-lb Maine Coon who deigned to live in our house when I was in college, talked a lot, and it got so that certain phrases had meanings recognizable even by us humans, to wit:
"There is a cat lying across the bottom of the stairs; do not step on him!"
"The cat would not object to being fed now."
"Make a lap: the cat is on short final." (This latter message is particularly inconvenient one to receive when one is standing upright with a large bag of groceries in each arm.)
