Got a few words on George today; slow going while I try to coax a character to tell me who he is.

This would be easier if he knew, himself.

Does he have some lesson he's going to try to learn by the end? If so, in what ways does his present cluelessness affect his behavior?

Wow, I'd never get anywhere if I went at it like that :)

As it happens, I know who he is, in broad stroke, what he's doing in the story, and his part in solving the problem of the narrative. But! That's a whole different kettle of fish from who he thinks he is, and since he's a viewpoint, that Matters.
