rolanni: (Exit Stage Left)

. . .today's version of "Whiskey in the Jar," was brought to me by the Kingston Trio. It may be the. . .most upbeat version I've heard so far, of the many that have come up on Pandora. I guess every folk group on the planet has covered it. I do find it fascinating that the name of the Pretty Maggie Moneyeyes character changes with the singer -- I've heard Sportin' Jenny, Molly, Jenny (no sportin' allowed), for three, and others, I think, but can't recall at the moment.

So, the day-job! The batch of paperwork attending the nearest gaggle of job applicants was finished and distributed today. Go, me! Getting that off my desk was huge. The rest of the near incoming can be done on Monday -- all I need is the finalized schedule from the search chair to cover each packet (already compiled). The guests who are making the tail of the procession are in the scheduling interviewers stage; I'll probably get a burst of email on that topic Tuesday, when everyone's back from "break."

What the above means is that I could actually start doing some of the prep I need to have done by the time Spring semester starts -- on Wednesday. Nothing like split second timing, says I.

Anyhow, what with all that excitement, I was done in by the time I got home. Finished up some bookkeeping here before it ate my desk, but no writing is happening tonight.

Sigh. If writers are people who live by their wit, I gotta get a new set of wits.

So, here's the plan -- this weekend, I'm working on "Intelligent Design."

What're you doing?

We will be rehanging SF art work in the dining room. It was taken down a few months ago to repaint. Plus the usual cleaning, laundry, bill paying, etc.

I tink everyone has covered that song, folk group or not. I mean, Metallica has done it...

As for the weekend, more cleaning and organizing, and hopefully some socializing too.

Me too! It is good fun.

Metal is really full of good covers. I also like their version of "Turning the Page" and Five Finger Death Punch did a great job with "Bad Company."

I like their version as well although a friend of my insists that they stole the idea from Thin Lizzy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TehFZ38kt6o)

Based on the weekend so far? Trying not to melt, mostly.

And watching videos. [livejournal.com profile] evilrooster is running a Babylon 5 rewatch, and I'm a couple of episodes behind. There are also a couple of things I was rewatching already, for my own amusement, that I should watch at least an episode of before month's end so I can count them as "in progress" on the monthly retrospective with a clear conscience.

What doing?

Getting ready to file taxes for 2010. This will take a while and one of my unfavorite activities but must be done. Better: walking dogs. Better; going to see "True Grit" tomorrow night. Should be good.

Since there are so many job applicants could you apply for a better job?

On the Sat/Sun weekend? Working. On my weekend, Mon/Tue, backpacking in 2.5 miles to work on a lost trail that connects a historic trail and a camp (and year round water source)...camping on a low saddle on a ridge with expansive views less than 100 feet from the 1/4 miles trail I'll be working on. Weather should be cool and dry...the snow showers on Sunday are expected to melt off by Monday morning.

Saturday I dismantled a canopy tent, went shopping and played some wii games. Tomorrow I may be roller blaring but it depends if the tropical cyclone actually hits the coast near here or not.

Pandora and choice of music

I have used computers for over 30 years, but am by no means computer litterate.
I have seen several refferences to "Pandors" and music selections here.
I finally asked my Granddaughter just what was "Pandora"?
She showed me where and what it was.
Thanks for the "turn on" to music stations I can somewhat program to my choice of artists.
I had been listening to Sirrus sattelite on my computer, but now I can chose the options.

Not being possessed of a granddaughter, I'd love one of my fellow abject slaves to enlighten me as to what a Pandora is, apart from the box, of course.

It may not work in your part of the world, but for informational purposes: http://www.pandora.com/

It's a programmable radio. You put in Stuff You Like, and it outputs Stuff Like the Stuff You Like.

Thanks! I'm busy listening to Jackson Browne & David Lindley's 'Love is Strange' at the moment, but when that's finished, I'm off to Pandoraland.

Have a great Sunday.

Here comes the sun….

Today, I’m getting as much heavy washing out on the line as possible. It’s 41C outside and things are drying in about 10 minutes. Look out doona covers, look out mattress protectors and pet beds, your day in the sun has come.
