In Berlin, in the Jewish Museum there is a hallway, called the Memory Void Room, the floor of which is strewn with screaming metal faces. Visitors are. . .encouraged to walk down the hall, on the screaming faces, which shift underfoot, making a noise like slave chains clanking.

What part of your job involved this? Part of a travel lecture? Pretty spooky!

I am responsible for making posters to advertise various presentations and talks hosted by the programs I serve. Like the Jewish Studies program, which hosts the annual Berger Holocaust Lecture. This year's speaker has written several books contrasting memory with history. She will for the Berger Lecture be taking on the assertion of some historians that, immediately following World War II, the Jews...ignored the Holocaust and only began talking about it when it became politically expedient.

So, I wanted to illustrate her intent, and give a nod to her specialty, and also use a graphic that dragged the eye in. It took a couple hours to put the poster together, what with running down the exhibit and finding an image that I was allowed to use, which I finally did -- a closeup of the faces piled up in the hall.

The part of your job creating posters seems very interesting. I think they call that kind of an artwork an installation. That one would certainly be very creepy. The whole museum, in my opinion, would be a very difficult place to visit for anyone.

Whichever revisionist historian said that the Jews ignored the Holocaust once they knew it was happening is, from everything I've heard, completely wrong. As soon as some Jews found out the Holocaust was actually happening they tried to get the word out to anyone who would listen. They were mostly ignored. The world only really found out about the Holocaust when the various armies liberated the camps at the end of the war.

Randomly, the shattered slate on the top of Red Slate Mountain[1] has a very metallic sound when you step on it, however it is the sound of broken cast iron, rather than cut steel plate. Very disconcerting.

Have you ever heard of any ghosts about?

We (my cousin, my sister in law, and myself) this past week...My cousin and I were in the Voided Tower...she started to take a picture of me...and said there was a girl in the picture with me. No one else was in the room.
I am a bit creeped out.
Have you heard of anything like this happening. It has never happened to me ever before.
