Still sick, but I got ‘em on the run. *eyes saltwater gargle wearily*

Because I slept all day yesterday, I did not fulfill my goal of completing the last of the workshop papers, nor did I dig a hole in the Cat Garden. Today, it’s raining, and Steve has respectfully — not to say, reasonably — suggested that we conduct a Proper Burial after our world travels are through. Below, therefore, a Revised To-Do List.

In case one has missed the announcement elsewhere, there is a teaser up at Splinter Universe for “Kin Ties,” which goes live — anyone?

Yes, excellent! “Kin Ties” goes live on Friday.

And, now, to work.

To-Do Before Leaving for Reno
1. Finish critiquing the submissions for our section of the WorldCon Writing Workshop: 1, 2, 3
2. Do prep for the panel I’m moderating
3. Make sure The Leewit has the latest edition of George on her SDcard, and the notes for “Guaranteed Delivery”
4. Write an essay with Steve. Must isolate a topic.
5. Have and recover from pre-departure panic attack
6. Pack, which includes “do laundry”
6a. Find all pertinent wires
7. Upload “Kin Ties” to Splinter Universe
8. Turn over keys, house, and felines to cat sitter

Is there hope that you will re-post/confirm the various Liaden gatherings once you are on the ground in Reno? We are going to be there, and I would like to finally thank you in person for over 20 years of fabulous books. Unfortunately, my iPad does LJ searches poorly, and that is going to be my reference when I'm there.

P.S. Good luck with packing! I found my Plan B shirt, but all the clean socks are hiding...

Not being a twitter fan (is that a tweeter? Or just a twit? :-)

These links appear to do the right thing

http://twitter.com/#!/bechimo -- for Steve's tweets

http://twitter.com/#!/Clankorval -- For Sharon's tweets

http://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23liadens -- for the tweets tagged with #liadens

Huh. It almost makes sense. Here's so-and-so's tweets, this is for tweets tagged with that...

Oh, I'm all a twitter?

Happy travel

Was delighted to see all the kudos for GHOST SHIP. Totally totally deserved. I guess it's too much to hope that it would actually earn out by the October royalty statement since it wasn't officially released until 2 August, but we can look forward to the spring royalty statement with bated breath and fingers crossed. Do they let you know on the October statement how much more GHOST SHIP has to sell before it reaches the Promised Land?

Have a wonderful trip cross country and a good time at the con. You two do deserve a wonderful vacation. It's been a hard year, good things and bad, sad things...a definition of life, I guess.

Happy travels.

Having just re-read the entire Lee&Miller Liaden series, I recommend it highly. It's not particularly action oriented, but the development of a consistent and interesting universe is well done, with good characters, and the books are a "good read".

Sales

A small slice of market research. Stopped by one of my local B&N stores and they have sold the 3 copies they originally got of GHOST SHIP and have reordered, but the sales person I talked to said only one has come in. Don't know if they ordered more or just the one that arrived in today's delivery and was waiting to be unpacked. They at least featured the first three on the shelf of newly arrived hardbacks in the SF section but I of course thought they should have put it up on the display you see of new hardbacks just as you come in to the store. After all it is the lead Baen hardcover for this month and 3 copies seemed a pretty puny order, but that's what both B&N stores that are local to me were sent. I think the Baen marketing division needs to do some work with the B&N division that decides how many copies are to be sent to the bricks and mortar stores, but of course you all don't have any control at all over that end of the marketing chain.

Looking at which publishing houses that had new hardcovers which were featured on the display you see immediately upon entering the store, Baen had no featured titles at all. Of course the new George Martin was heavily featured but we Lee and Miller fans are firmly convinced that GHOST SHIP deserves high billing too!

FYI, if you do pass this on to the Baen marketing folks, these stores are in the Reston and Fair Lakes area of Fairfax County in Virginia. B&N needs more than a pathetic one or two copies to show in stock of a newly released, long awaited title like GHOST SHIP!
