rolanni: (what it's like)

Down in another topic, Bob presumes the following, which it strikes me may be a common presumption, so I bring the answer to the top where it can be seen by all. Thank you, Bob, for asking.

I presume that the Solcintra accent will be used ?

No. I'm afraid that presumption is inaccurate. Neither Steve nor I have a Solcintran accent. Or a Chonseltan accent. Or even an Outworld accent. We are mere Terrans, and world-bound, too.

Yes, I live in fear that, in the blessedly unlikely event that we should meet, our characters would despise us.

That aside, the accents you will hear will be delivered in purest Baltimore-crossed-with-Maine and the pronunciations Eastern-Seaboard-of-the-US-lower-middle-class-English-informed-by-high-school-Spanish.

We did not, because we cannot, promise Authentic Solcintran, though if anyone knows of a visitor to these climes who has such an accent and who would be willing to accommodate us, we would be in their debt. What we do promise is the authors' pronunciation guide -- i.e. How We Say It.

Disappointed

I'm disappointed. I thought we were going to get the correct Liaden pronunciation. We'll have to be content with hearing the words with a heavy Terran accent. Oh well. Certainly better than nothing. At least it should be intelligible. As you said in "Guaranteed Delivery" Aelianna spoke Terran with a heavy accent but was still entirely intelligible. That's the main thing. You don't want to ask "where is the hotel?" and it comes out "my uncle doesn't doesn't like me" or some such.
