Nice open letter. I would put the odds at 0.999 that S&S drops Sebastian Marshall in heartbeat.

Everything he wrote is true, and has been true my entire professional life. (My first civilian job was writing software to automate tracking book publishing end-to-end from concept to royalties.) The code for distributing royalties was proof that book publishers hate authors.

Well, yes, obviously.

What's appalling is that the same letter could well have been written in 1951, and would have been just as apt.

While I am sure Mitchell is quite right about the industry, he does himself (and other authors) a disservice writing this letter when he is on a manic binge. Really, really manic! It makes it too easy to excuse the letter as coming from a mentally ill person. Unfortunate, that.

Whoops! Marshall, not Mitchell.

Well, to be fair, he would hardly have had the energy to write it in Downtime.

I try to aim for the midway spot which is probably why I'm not an artist. Still, there is manic and MANIC.

Good grief. I had no idea a Big Publisher could act like that .... and STILL be a Big Publisher ...*shakes head*
