State of the health is improving, slowly.

State of the book is proceeding, slowly.

State of the weather is…summery. 81F/27C on March 22?  The daffodils are pushing their way to the surface already and that’s just…not natural.

In shopping news, Fanboy Glass tells us that they have received such positive response to their Tree-and-Dragon glassware that they’ve added Mugs and Wine Glasses to the ever-popular Pint Glass so go on over and take a look.  (Fanboy does not ship to Australia, or Switzerland, or Spain, or anyplace, really, outside of the US and Canada.  We apologize, but, having once tried shipping highly breakable objects ’round the world ourselves, I can see their point.)

The second splinter dealing with Miri Robertson and Klamath is now up at Splinter Universe, joining the first splinter.  Read one, read ‘em all.

The edit letter for Dragon Ship has landed, and Steve is on point.  This is not your cue to ask when the eArc will be published, thanks.

I can’t get into it now, what with needing to finish up Necessity’s Child and all, but I suppose it’s time to do a blog post about Voice, and how Science Fiction isn’t only Stories of the Far Future, and why extrapolating from our own world into the future is a mug’s game, anyway.  Somebody remind me if I haven’t gotten around to that by mid-April, ‘k?

The Exciting Projects happening in the background are taking the long way ’round the barn.  Watch the skies, but take a break now and then so you don’t get a crick in your neck.

Mozart is napping in my his rocking chair.  I have, I hope, done the research necessary to satisfy our accountant regarding last year’s income (we don’t get 1099s for all the money we earn; this is apparently occasionally confusing), so now!

I can get to work.

How’s the weather where you are?  Seasonal?  Or has it gotten ahead of itself?

The gentlest flick of the wrist brought the blade out, locked and ready for business; the barest pressure on a certain spot in the leather-wrapped handle put it safely away again.

In fact, Udari thought, eying the thing with unease, it was a just a bit too apt, this knife, so smooth and so sweet that a man might forget that he held a weapon.

We went from fall directly to early spring and seem to have stalled there...with temps running low. However, yesterday we had a day of high summer (i.e. the start of a spring day finished off by heavy fog and driving mist).

In Cambridge (MA), my crocuses have gone past, the daffodils are up and blooming and the iris and tulips are on the way.

The peach tree (in a container, that shelters in a sunny southern overhang for the winter) has pink buds that will probably be blossoms by tomorrow. Same thing for most of the cherries. The blackberries and raspberries have new leaves....

I'm starting to wonder if it's too *LATE* to sow some of the early spring pea varieties and such that don't handle heat well (normally sown 4 weeks or so before last frost).

We didn't really get winter (I kept a simple, unheated cold frame made of scrap lumber, plastic, and bubble wrap going all winter, still has happy chard in it) and now I'm getting doubtful about really having spring.

The spring peepers began calling in Delaware the last week of February. My crocus are all done for the year, and the daffodils are on their way out. The blueberries have started to bud and flower. The last few mornings have been in the 50's, wet and dripping, with glorious afternoons in the 70's. Wet again this morning, and projected to be 80+ today, but back down into the upper 50's or the 60's for the weekend. I would class this weather as "unusual in the extreme", but for the exceptionally mild winter we had in the mid-Atlantic.

I just hope we don't get par-broiled come May...

My weather is very seasonal, in that we're between the dry season and the start of the "green" season. We've gone from 60F at night and 75F during the day with sunny skies to 60F at night and 75F during the day with regular afternoon overcast and occasional afternoon showers.

'course this is in Costa Rica's central valley, 4000 feet above sea-level and 10 degrees north of the equator. Eternal springtime.

Michigan has been having the hottest weather ever in March for about two weeks now (80s with it hitting 86F yesterday). Early bulbs already gone, daffs heading that way. There are cherry trees blooming down the street, as well as magnolias. My redbud tree is heading towards done. My allergies have kicked into over drive as all the maples, etc. are blooming. May weather in March.

Atlanta is in full bloom, maybe a month ahead of schedule, and that means pollen season. I can sweep the pine pollen into piles, all surfaces are coated with the mix of oak and pine, and everyone with any level of allergies is miserable. The pollen count Tuesday was an all time high of 9369 where 1500 is "extremely high". Today it's back down to *only* 4300 or so.

On the other hand, my yard is really pretty, with the azaleas and dogwoods blooming, the forsythia and redbuds almost done, and the daffodils and grape hyacinth are really going to town. The (indoor) cats feel they should have a shot at the nice green grass...which is coated with pollen, of course. Not that they would care.

Well, her in Melbourne, Tuesday night it was too hot to sleep (unusually hot for the season) Then Wednesday it dropped to 12C by lunchtime and we have all been rather chilly ever since. We seem to have gone from Summer to Winter without and Autunm in between. Shiver.

I live in western Australia and the weather here has been possibly a bit cooler than in your area for a few days though we are meant to go back up to 30 °C later this week. Tropical storm up north causing temporary cooler spell. Summer was wetter than previous couple which was good. No idea what autumn/winter are going to be like. Summer was apparently second hottest on record in terms of averages, but didn't feel too bad so possibly less peaky.

A few days ago, I would have said that, after a poor excuse for winter, even by South Carolina standards, we were going to skip spring entirely. After all, I had unpacked my summer clothes and was happily taking out the mail in shorts and a tank top before winter even officially ended. I know I moved here for the warmth, but it was 88F a full week before spring.

As soon as the rain passes it is supposed to swoop back into the 80s. My daffodils have been out in force for a week already. All the redbud trees are blooming and the tulips and chestnuts have already passed.

I take all this week of rain as our official April Showers.

Milwaukee: Warmest March on record!

In Wisconsin:
snow drops bloomed a month ago
crocuses bloomed 2 weeks ago and are gone (4 weeks early)
Daffodils have been blooming for a week (4-5 weeks early)
Crab apples (both white & pink) blooming (6 weeks early)
Forsythia blooming slightly early
dogwood blooming 3 weeks early
Magnolia blooming 4-6 weeks early
tulips just leaves so far
Maple & elm trees blooming (death by pollen attack to follow shortly)

Our warmest March on record. We've been in the 80's for the past 10 days (everyone a record-breaker). Our low temps are higher then the normal average highs.

We have tons of birds back ahead of schedule (because the ice was gone from lakes & rivers early). Yesterday we were warmer then LA, Las Vegas and many Florida cities. People have been wearing shorts and tank tops and sandals for 2 weekends. Patio seating has been open at restaurants for 2 weeks (usually happens in late May).

March madness indeed!

Am impressed with the folks commenting from Australia. It is super far away from here. 16 hours in the future from us tomorrow. Actually I watch part of a program on CNN every night called World Business Today. It's broadcast here in the US very early in the morning from London and Hong Kong. There is often a weather report from Australia which is really weird when one lives in UT/USA.

Here the weather is much warmer than usual for this time of year. I just hope that doesn't mean the summer is going to be hotter. It gets up to 100 degrees for many days during the summer here. And sometimes it doesn't cool off that much at night which is really hard. It's been very warm during the day here but going down below freezing at night since...we are up over 5,000 feet here in the desert. The trick here is to not have the fruit tree blooms freeze. Last summer there was a lot of fruit: peaches, apricots, plums, pears, grapes.

Good area for cats and dogs. No fleas and no heartworm.
Haven't had time yet to read the 2nd splinter installment. But am looking forward to it.
Good luck with everything.

Out here in the Pacific North Wet we should have daffodils. Instead we got a foot of snow on Wednesday. If there are daffo-down-dillys under all the white fluffy--now gray and slushy--I can't find them.

Trade you?

Glad you're on the mend!

weather in Folsom, CA

We fished 4 frogs out of the unheated backyard spa yesterday, but the front yard fish pond is still too cold to start feeding the goldfish. Camellias are in bloom, as are violets and daffs. The two apricot trees are finished blooming and are setting fruit. Flowering pears and plums have been in bloom for several weeks now throughout the area. Waiting for the cherry trees to bloom. Meanwhile, last week we finally had a lot of rain locally and SNOW in the local mountains (Sierra / Lake Tahoe) so today my daughter and granddaughter are up skiing. It's about an hour and a half drive for her from Folsom.
