The Bath Guy Cometh

rolanni: (Exit Stage Left)

I was going to write a longish blog entry about why there have to be Books Between, but…I’m tired, and the dishes need to be done, and after that I wanna curl up and read one of my geisha books, so…maybe later.

Today was cleaning, early, and getting bread started, and then the visitation of the Bath Guy, Stage One in our intention to remodel the bathroom, replacing the bathtub with a shower enclosure.

This consultation took much longer than I had planned on, and the execution of Stage One will be somewhat more expensive than I had anticipated — Balancing the under-budget work we had done in the fall. We signed the contract, gave a deposit and sometime in mid-June we’ll have a brand-new shower. Upon which time we will commence in saving for Stage Two.

Does it strike anyone else as Completely Unfair that the least glamorous room in the house will cost the most to redo?

Anyhow, I also finished compiling the second volume of short stories, and writing the foreword for that, so everything’s ready for an orderly transfer, just as soon as the contract’s ready.

Oh! And exciting news, for those who didn’t hear it elsewhere: We heard from David Mattingly this afternoon; he’s finished reading Necessity’s Child, and is excited about doing the cover. Can’t wait to see it!

Before I answer the siren call of the dishes, I want to assure fans of Silversocks that he’s settling in nicely. Here’s a picture Steve took of him yesterday afternoon, while he communed with a box:

Socks looks quite the statesman...approachable but not to be trifled with. Good picture; thank you for sharing it.

That's only because you're not ripping out your kitchen and re-doing it. I did BOTH the kitchen and master bath last year - to get the biggest mess over with at once - and while the expense was frightful, I don't regret it. I did the same thing in replacing the tub with a shower which works far better for me. They were able to make the enclosure slightly larger than the old tub was and banished what seemed like acres of 4 x 4 YELLOW tile and brass hardware. It was a vision of the 80's haunting my dreams. Fortunately for me, the condo(apartment) has a second full bath which retains the tub, so I don't have to worry about future buyers far, far down the road.

Interesting. My master bath only has a shower, and I often miss having a tub that is actually big enough to soak in. The tub in the other bath holds perhaps nine inches of water. Since I am significantly taller than my cats, that is a non starter as far as a bath is concerned. Though I guess it could work for soaking of feet.

Is it just the angle, or has Socks gotten a 'summer cut' too?

He'd apparently gotten knotted up and his previous situation had cut the knots out, reasonably enough. He has very fine, wispy fur. In contrast, Mozart's fur is very thick.

I have plans to take out my garden tub in the next year and replace it with a large shower - with glass walls on two sides so I can squeegee them clean! My current tub is large, but keeps the water hot for about 2 minutes, so it is worthless except for a place to hold my big blankets in the summer or to wash our dog on occasion. Luckily the cat takes care of himself! We have a hot tub and a tub in the other bathroom, although I could happily get rid of that one too. Good luck!

Pretty kitty! I am however prejudiced.

I did the remove bathtub and put in a walk-in shower a few years back and have never regretted it. I did it for accessibility reasons but it sure is better than the 1950's pink and black bathroom I used to have.

I'm looking forward to the author's explanation about why there have to be books Between.

Mr. Socks is one impressive cat. That is for sure.

I noticed one commenter would like to keep a bathtub for washing the dog. My five dogs go to the groomer. In the photo you see Gus, the master of all hair. He fills up the grooming room with hair. I don't even dare brush him at home for fear he'll fill up my house with hair. the bathtub would be out of the question for the dogs. I don't think it would survive.

I'd just like to note again how nice it is to have a cover artist who actually reads the books, so what you see on the front actually resembles what's in the book. I know authors don't have any control over that sort of thing, so I imagine you're glad about it, too. Some of the covers of the old books looked downright weird, y'know? :)

We've generally been lucky with our cover artists. David's just super -- he reads the book, he asks questions, he paints Incredibly Awesome Covers -- what's not to love?

His covers are worthy of the books. I've put in my bid for the #2 print of the cover as soon as it's done.

One of the problems is that bathrooms are so blasted small. Makes it difficult to work on even small projects without concussing oneself.
They'd be easier to clean if they were larger too.

I've been missing my LiveJournal friends lately, so I didn't know you had a new kitty. He's a very pretty fellow.
