Socks appears to feel he has an unruly tail, which must be kept controlled firmly under the paw.

Actually, I think he's resting his paw after helping with signing. Supervision can be stressful, especially catching those stray glitters of this and that to keep them from interfering. But, you know what they say, "A paw's got to do what a paw's got to do."
