I'm getting a little worried, here...

By my count, 16 of the books I've read so far this year are fantasies (I count Tryst as a fantasy, not as a romance); only 5 are science fiction books (only one of them new, though in a long-running series that I follow closely; and of the remaining 4, one is Agent of Change). I read 3 mystery novels; 2 romances; 2 non-fiction books; 2 historical fiction; 2 photo books; 1 porn novel.

Allowing myself the conceit that co-creators are full partners in the production of any joint project, 20 of the authors I read were women (1 of them being myself), and 8 were men (one of whom is Steve).

This seems. . .rather lopsided.

While I believe that a writer ought to read out-of-genre -- to ease the strain on the brain, if for no other reason -- I find it rather disturbing that I only read one new science fiction book this year, a re-read of Cuckoo's Egg and first readings of The Steerswoman, and Dancer of the Sixth (and, of course, the re-re-re-&c-read of Agent. . .).

Last year, it looks like I managed to read 14 science fiction books (out of a possible 51; and yes, I count Girl Genius as science fiction. For the purposes of this discussion, Steampunk is a subset of Science Fiction.)

So! Who's read any good science fiction books lately?

Yeah, that was pretty good. Picked it up during our book tour last year, and read it hot off the press. I hear there's a sequel coming.
