The New Year thus far has been consumed by Shopping.  I have purchased check registers from Ebay (No, I don't keep my checkbook electronically.  No, I don't want to hear about how it's really better.  Thanks.).

In addition, I have purchased books (The Wave in the Mind; The Martian; Tigerman), and movies (From Up On Poppy Hill; Sleeping Beauty), and various bitlits of music.

In a little while, I will put on my coat and my boots and go out to get the final 2014 mileage from the cars, and change out the mileage books.

Steve is heating the oven for egg rolls for the traditional New Years dinner.  Last night, we ushered the Old Year Out by sharing half of a veggie pizza, and listening to Steve's Midnight Radio on Pandora.  We actually did make it 'til midnight before we turned into pumpkins.

For those who are almost as sick of hearing me complain about my health, as I am, about complaining:  Steve and I are both appreciably better.  We are, in fact, in that zone of Almost Totally Well where we able to look back to even a week ago, and say to each other, "Holy Crap, we were really sick."  So, yanno, yay! for antibiotics, and boo for losing damn' near five weeks of work.

Our writing schedule for 2015 looks like this at the moment:

Short story in support of Dragon in Exile due at Baen April 15
Alliance of Equals due at Baen May 29 (renegotiated deadline)
Third of Five due at Baen November 15

2015 publications so far look like this:

January 6: Carousel Seas
May 15:  Short story in support of Dragon in Exile
June 2Dragon in Exile
August 4A Liaden Universe® Constellation, Volume III

Also, just a reminder, Lee and Miller will not -- that's NOT -- be attending Boskone this year.  See above, five weeks of illness, from which we are barely now recovering.

. . .and that's all the news that's fit to print.  Here -- have a picture of Princess Jasmine Sprite wearing the traditional Lady Bug Lace in honor of the New Year:

Does the ebook version of Dragon in Exile come out later than the hardcover? I went to pre-order it on Amazon and they only listed the hardcover.

I expect that the ebook will manifest about a month before the hardcover, as has been the pattern. Amazon seems. . .somewhat erratic in listing ebooks for preorder. Maybe they're afraid of a Buying Frenzy.

I checked Baen first, but they're not up to June yet. I ... must ... manifest ... patience ;)

Be aware that Toni has hinted at the likelihood of an eArc well before then, so if you indulge in eArcs, you may be able to get it even sooner. Of course, there is no listing of when eArcs will be available, although one can sign up for notifications...

Happy New Year!

In a little while, I will put on my coat and my boots and go out to get the final 2014 mileage from the cars, and change out the mileage books.

I learned to keep mileage from my dad, and continue to do so even today. I don't change out the book, though, because I love being able to flip back to, oh, 1999 for example, and see how my 1991 Honda Accord stick shift was doing as compared to my 2005 Toyota Prius did this December. I also enjoy refuting people who claim a particular price of gas at a particular time.

In our case, the Accountant needs the book as proof of business miles on the year.

I do, however, keep a running gas mileage book, which I also learned to do from my father, back in the days before the cars kept track of these matters for you. And that book stays in the car until it's full or until the car is sold.

Oddly, no one has ever wanted my records when I have sold my cars. So I just keep rolling along.

I donated a well-maintained but very old car to the Salvation Army when it wouldn't pass its smog check in Massachusetts, and they specifically required us to remove all written materials from the car. Such a shame, because it had a new radiator, etc. We had decided that ANY more money on this car was not to be spent, but we still have the replacement we bought used in 2000.
And don't worry about complaining to us, we are just happy to know you are able to reach the keyboard and post to us!

Ah, I understand now. I, too, keep a gas mileage book (with interspersions such as "New Battery" or "Head Gasket" that goes on forever, and is transferred, unless it is very full, from old car to newer car.
