rolanni: (i've often seen a cat without a smile)

So, it finally stopped snowing. Steve and the metric stick between them have decided that we had a snowfall of 19 inches, here at the Cat Farm.  Sanford, to the south, wins the prize for Maine City with the Most Blizzard, with 31.5 inches on the ground.

Most of Maine is cancelled and/or closed today, while we participate in the winter ritual known as Digging Out.

We're waiting for the plowman.  In the meantime, both cars have been dug out -- getting Steve's car out wasn't that much of a challenge, as the wind had kindly decided not to allow any snowflake to come to rest less than six inches from its sides.  My car, sitting right next to Steve's, was something more of a puzzle, since the same capricious wind decided to make an eight-foot snow sculpture anchored by my car.

Happily, the snow was very light and fluffy.  Steve was able to get into the passenger's side, and push open the driver's door, thereby collapsing the front of the sculpture.  He then walked around to the driver's side, opened the door, turned on the car and moved it, which completed the collapse.

. . .and a pause here to attend the plowman. . .

We did not lose power at any point during the storm, despite the really dreadful winds.  Hoping that continues, now that all's calm.

Today's to-do list includes paying bills, catching the tax paperwork up to the Important Tax Documents currently in hand, and. . .writing.  Also, aspirin.  For some reason my back hurts.

How did you weather the storm?

I am also doing my 'Waiting For the Plowman' ritual. He has to dig out his Grandad's pigs first. And even if I could get out -nowhere to go as the whole cape is one gigantic snow drift today. And they are amazing drifts.

Glad you weathered it in fine fettle. I suppose it would be too much to ask for pictures of snow angels ;)

Storm better than aftermath

We had over two feet of snow. I didn't lose power or internet. My cable TV that I cancelled is still active (for free) because nobody could come out to disconnect at the pole. To slow down cooling in case I lost power, I kept the house at 68F instead of my normal 62F, and now I'm spoiled.

The downstairs toilet is gurgling, but it's not from a snow-covered vent, so I need to get the plumber out when it's possible for him to park. That's a cost I didn't need on top of paying to get myself shoveled out.

OK, Mother Nature. I've had my 'feeling warm and cozy stuck indoors' event for the winter. You can stop now.

Much less impact than expected in NYC. I even made it to work (VERY late) on Tuesday via the subway trains.

Worst that happened was that my husband's blood pressure went through the roof when some unknown neighbor borrowed both shovels (from the porch) without a word or a note and wasn't using them, at least not on the sidewalk, when he got home midafternoon. When I got home early evening they'd been returned, but he thought they'd been stolen.

We should probably buy a backup shovel to keep indoors in case someone does one of these days.

There hasn't even been any rain to speak of here in Raincouver these past few days. Just some overcast which cleared in time for a nice and sunny drive home. I even had the window down part of the way.

We've had the driest January on record in the Sacramento area. And the drought continues.

Light fluffy snow shoveled here, too ; and I only had to shovel half the driveway, because someone kindly Bobcatted the end of it for me, totally unasked!

Glad the Cat Farm is powered and dry!
