PSA: Dragon in Exile

Dragon in Exile is not -- that's NOT -- a "Theo book." I'm pretty sure we said that, several times, but apparently some folks missed school that day.
Alliance of Equals is also not -- that's NOT -- a "Theo book." Maybe if I start saying it now, people will catch on by the time the eArc comes around.
We now return you to your regularly-scheduled blog.
Well, no, actually, we don't. Maybe tomorrow on the regularly-scheduled blog. I'm kinda tired, tonight.

Date: 2015-02-12 02:38 am (UTC)Maybe one of those upcoming books will have Mr. prithee as a character. I think he's earned an actual credited appearance ;)

Date: 2015-02-12 05:56 am (UTC)That having been said, I am among the many who would love it if "another Theo book" *happens* to come to you (pl) at any pt. To be honest, Aelliana is my fave character, tho, so no complaints there. :) But Theo admittedly rocks...go Theo! But, ofc, the key is to follow your muse...that's where the magic happens, I suspect. And I very much enjoy the results...and I don't expect them to follow *my* relatively ignorant (not being the author(s)) preconceptions/prefs/blah blah. Write, have fun...we'll buy 'em. And Thank You...

Date: 2015-02-12 09:15 am (UTC)The most thrilling question remains unanswered, though, and that was... unexpected. The question being - what will Kamele do?
I am looking forward to the next novel.

Date: 2015-02-13 01:55 pm (UTC)Please remember that not everyone reads eArcs, and that there are readers who are a couple books behind, or who have just found the universe and haven't caught up yet.
There is a spoiler thread for those who have read the Dragon in Exile eArc, here: http://sharonleewriter.com/2015/02/spoiler-cafe-dragon-in-exile/

Date: 2015-02-12 03:14 pm (UTC)(*) I don't think she'd find it congenial. But she's no longer clumsy so there's no evidence she's a safety hazard - she *is* a safety hazard, but I very much doubt Delgado recognizes "psychic nexus of bizarre coincidences" as a safety hazard. She got expelled from her tertiary learning institution, but she has the license to prove she acquired the knowledge she went there to acquire, and Eylot has not exactly behaved properly since. If she had an important enough academic-type question (say, urgent need for historical data), I don't see any reason she couldn't go back to Delgado to try to research it / find a researcher there. (With Korval plus *all these* Scouts on Surebleak, math is probably covered even without Aelliana, and current culture / languages certainly are.)

Date: 2015-02-12 04:03 pm (UTC)I don't think that Delgado is in any way prepared to deal with a grown-up Theo. And I think she would find it even more stifling now. She might, possibly, go back for her mother (which reminds me. . .), but I'm not seeing any other pressing reason for Bechimo to raise Delgado.

Date: 2015-02-12 08:44 pm (UTC)I, as one of your readers, don't feel any chair-edge need for an immediate "Theo Book" as opposed to another "Clan Korval book". Or even, "Liadan Anybody Book" (Thank you very much for writing a second book about Jethri.)

Date: 2015-02-12 10:07 pm (UTC)How about Shan and Priscilla? They haven't their own book in awhile. I'm guessing they might be having some "adventures" on the Dutiful Passage, with all the universe adjusting to the new circumstances for Korval - Tree and Dragon.
Still, can we hope for a few scenes, or interludes, tucked in the spaces of upcoming books that might show glimpses of what Theo and her band of adventures are up to? Or perhaps even a splinter?
You keep introducing us to characters we care about, and want to keep up with. If only they had their own facebook (or livejournal) accounts to keep us abreast of their latest news. :-)
Thank you!
Date: 2015-02-19 05:45 pm (UTC)Though I wasn't used to such multiple viewpoints in a Liaden book, I quite understand the necessity, considering the complexity of the remaining problems; I don't know why I was surprised at first. It was lovely to catch up with so many old friends, some of whom I was afraid wouldn't find a place in a future story, based on the tighter focus of the Theo books.
You've given us so many interesting developments and insights I'll be thinking about for quite a while, I'm not going to enumerate here or else this post will get way too long. I can't mention details or names without them maybe being considered spoilers, and I don't know how to talk about a book without those, except in the vaguest generalities. I enjoyed my first read-through, and will reread it as soon as I can, because there is so much happening, and being set up, that one reading is not enough to anchor and absorb it all.
Question: I found some missing letters (e.g. famed for framed, toolbooths for tollbooths) and a few transposed words, and stuck in quick bookmarks in case it would be useful to send them to someone at Baen. Is there an email address for errata in eArcs, or is participation by the public in this not welcome?
