People of the Internets, I need your help!

Korval.com has lost its FAQ.  We think it may have run off with the Highlander FAQ, but -- whatever.

The problem before us, obviously, is producing another FAQ - which is where you come in!

What questions are Frequently Asked regarding the Liaden Universe®?  What questions would you like to see addressed?  What questions would be helpful to people trying to decide if this universe is worth their reading time?

All suggestions welcome!

Are you wanting it re-written, or do you want access to an older version? Because a 2009 version (http://web.archive.org/web/20110713170801/http://www.korval.com/faqliad.htm) is still accessible on the Wayback Machine. (Seems to be from the 2011 July site).

But if you think that it's time that new frequent questions were collected that's cool too.

Sharon, There is a 2007 version of your FAQ archived at:

This might give you a starting point.
Good Luck. Pat

Entry points seems to be the first and foremost question. I started reading when delRey was your publisher, so I'm not the one to ask -- or tell.

The next is probably "where have you put the Liaden glossary?"

The first question that I would look up in a FAQ for the Liaden Universe would be the chronological order of the Liaden Stories. Not the order they were written in but the order they occur in the universe. Like a Universe timeline. The best secnario would include both novels and shortstories.

I know lists like this occur in various wikis, so maybe links to these sites?

Four common questions that seem to be needed are
What is Korval?
Where do I buy book(insert title here)?
What is the first in the series?
What is the latest book?

Remind me to read the other comments before making my own. Now, let's see. What kind of questions do people ask?

Well, we already have the "where do I start reading" or "what order should I read them in" which can be nicely answered by pointing to your page on reading order.

A related question, which is more troublesome, probably is "where do the short stories fit" -- at the very least, there needs to be a pointer to the collections, and the suggestion to read them, and fit them in around the novels as you see it.

Ah! "What else is available?" Which can guide them to either (a) other works by Lee and Miller, such as the Carousel Trilogy, Duanfey, Tomorrow Log... I forgot something, but your other works. Or (b) similar works (don't we have a recommended or related works collection somewhere?).

One more. "Can I write fan fiction in the Liaden Universe?" Nix, negative, no.

"What are you writing next? When can I get it?" See Alliance of Equals, three more after that, and a couple extra to follow.

"Where can I get Web of the Trident?" You can't.

"Why don't you stick to the main story and finish telling us about (Val Con and Miri, Theo Waitley, Jethri Gobelyn...)?" Because it is a Universe, with lots of active people. Also, the "side stories" often are part of the setting needed to advance the main story. Incidentally, if you know which one is the main story, you might need to let the rest of us on on the secret.

"Is there a guidebook or something?" See the liaden wiki.

That's a beginning, at least?

When I hand people Partners in Necessity as a "here, read this" I'm often asked some variation on "what kind of story is it?" Your FAQ might include that as a question both for groupings of the books and the series in general. I would think that the links to various reviews as answers. Some of your books are considered "space opera" and I know you have at least one romance award, so answering this question might be easier left to the link soup that you've gathered.

Just pondering. "Whatever happened to the taxi cab driver?" or "How did Val Con end up with a Clutch Turtle for a brother?" and various other questions from the novels are often answered in various short stories. Perhaps an annotated list of the short stories, with the question that they answer, might be useful?
