We were, as I was saying, met at the Denver train station by Terry Adams, who then bore us away from the metropolis to the tiny mountain hamlet of Colorado Springs. There, we were quickly settled into the spacious guest quarters at Chez Mormanbloom, and whisked off to lunch with Mem and Terry at the Macaroni Grill, where the food was good, the drink (Sangria!) delightful, and the company charming.

After lunch, we helped -- for values of "help" -- Terry do some shopping, hit two bookstores that did not have any of our books in stock, and then went off to the Garden of the Gods.

If you are ever in the vicinity of Colorado Springs, do not, repeat, DO NOT miss the Garden of the Gods.

Next day dawned balmy and bright. Megan, the beauteous and charming Anna, Terry and myself headed for the Colorado Mountain Zoo, where, as reported elsewhere, giraffes were fed. We then repaired to the tavern at the Broadmoor Inn, where we were fed -- and richly, too. Turkey sandwich on cranberry bread, mmmmm.

Thursday, when we thought we might venture into downtown Colorado Springs -- it snowed. So we stayed in and worked.

I want to mention that, though Chez Mormanbloom is in a housing development, mule deer roam the place seemingly without fear, and demonstrably without sense. Motorists have to be on the alert for deer simply standing in the middle of the road, and gardeners need to go to extraordinary lengths to preserve their flowers. There are also rabbits in quantity, and Squirrels of Unusual Size. Sappho, whom all at Chez Mormanbloom exist to serve, was well entertained.

As were the Authors.

Next Chapter -- the Con!

...is quite something. As is the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. (I fed giraffes. Pictures at eleven.) I'm having lots of fun and the con hasn't even started yet.

Tomorrow, we decamp to the Convention Hotel, where Good Times Will Be Had. Today and into tonight, it's snowing -- a projected four to six inches before it gives over. At home in bucolic Central Maine, our house-n-cat sitter allows us to know that a wind storm has knocked out the power. Said wind storm followed by forty degree temps and rain. Gah.

Everybody stay safe. And warm.

We left, waving goodbye to Mary and the cats, at 8:15, in the teeth of a mixed snow-and-rain storm. The wind blowed and the snow snowed basically the whole way down, with a brief respite as we swung 'round Boston. Kinzel drove the worst of it and kept us on the road and moving. We are now safely arrived at the Albany train station, albeit slightly early, and hey! *I'm posting to LJ via Sabu and the station's wifi*! How cool is that?

More later.
