1. Dave Freer is engaging in a Storyteller's Bowl project in order to raise money to allow the family's dogs and cats to emigrate with the family. Chapter One is already up, go on over and Save the Dragons

2. Amazon.com reports Fledgling in stock and shipping, as of this morning.

3. For those who prefer to gather their Fledglings at Big Box Stores, Baen's street date is September 8 -- next Tuesday. If Fledgling isn't on the shelf when you go shopping on or after the 8th, please do ask that helpful store employee to order them in.

Okay! Shaolin Soccer -- extremely silly.I adored the sweet roll making kung fu master. Highly recommended.

As I was cleaning up the other day, I found what was maybe the very first iteration of the book that became Crystal Soldier/Crystal Dragon. It consists of about twenty typewritten pages, and a bunch of notes. The book begins with a young and obviously nervous Tor An yos'Galan called by a police officer to come to the station and bail out his pilot. The scene in the station plays pretty much as it does in Crystal Dragon, and the two of them leave to attend a meeting with the assembled High Houses, who are arranging for transportation for their servants. It's clear from the meeting that the representatives of the High Houses are doublecrossing their servants by contracting for what they think is substandard transport. It's also clear that Cantra's on to them.

After the meeting, she and the kid, who is terrified of soldiers, go down to what passes for the low port in search of one of Jela's friends -- an Yxtrang. They find this gentleman, much to the distress of Tor An, and Cantra has just delivered new of Jela's death when they're ambushed by parties unknown.

Here ends the fragment. Funny, how some things change, and stay the same.

The Weather Beans are predicting a humongous snowstorm for central Maine starting early tomorrow morning. Steve reports at the local grocery store and roads are in a state of chilly gridlock. Me, I'm going to retire to the sofa to write.

This post was made with Dragon NaturallySpeaking; we have some work ahead of us with Liaden naming conventions.
