This is your Friendly Reminder that you may pre-order signed (but not personalized) copies of Trader's Leap, the twenty-third volume in Sharon Lee and Steve Miller's Liaden Universe® from Uncle Hugo's Science Fiction Bookstore.  Here's your link.

Those who are so minded may purchase the eARC of Trader's Leap right now, directly from Baen.  Here's your link.

If you're on the fence about the whole Trader's Leap thing, you may read sample chapters starting here.

Also available for pre-order at all of the Usual Suspects is the ebook edition of The Wrong Lance, which was previously published at Splinter Universe and at the Lee-and-Miller Patreon page.  I'm going to do y'all the honor of assuming that you know how to find your favorite electronic bookstore and not pile up a long line of links here.  Baen will be offering this title for sale electronically, as well, starting on October 27.  Also, for those who favor paper -- there will be a paper edition of The Wrong Lance, but that edition will not be available for order until-or-pretty-near-to October 27, for Reasons of Amazon.

Lawrence M. Schoen is sponsoring a Kickstarter to publish Eating Authors:  100 Writers' Most Memorable Meals.  I have an essay in this volume, as do 99 other authors you know or should know.  Fifty percent of the profits from the sale of this volume will be donated to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Emergency Medical Fund, and 50% will be donated to cancer research.  If you would like to support this effort, here's your link.

On December 2, at 7 pm PT, Steve and I will be doing a Virtual Event "at" Mysterious Galaxy.  We'll be reading from Trader's Leap, and chatting with attendees.  Please note that is 7 pm Pacific Time, which is 10 pm Eastern.  Please check your time zone carefully.  Here's your link to the event information.

There was a database catastrophe at our web hosting facility, which brought down sharonleewriter.com, splinteruniverse.com, and pinbeambooks.com for a few days.  We are back now, and in catch-up mode.

So, let's catch up!

1  The Wrong Lance, Splinter Universe Presents, Volume 2 has been compiled into an ebook and is available for preorder from The Usual Suspects.  Here's a so-called "universal" link.  Here's the link for the Kindle edition.

1a  YES, the ebook will be available from Baen, but not until Release Day.  Baen does not have the ability to take pre-orders for Pinbeam Books (the Lee&Miller Publishing Arm)

1b  YES, there will be a paper book, but not until (or a little before or after).  Amazon is our source for paper books, and Amazon has not so far been able to figure out how to allow people to pre-order paper books

1c  If you want to talk about The Wrong Lance with other readers, a discussion area has been created for you, here

2  The eARC of Trader's Leap, the 23rd novel in the Liaden Universe® created and authored by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller is now available for download.  Here's your link

2a  If you'd like to read a sample of Trader's Leap, that starts here

3  You may preorder a signed (not personalized) copy of the Trader's Leap hardcover from Uncle Hugo's SF Bookstore.  Here's your link

3a  For those who have not heard the news, Uncles Hugo and Edgar were lost to the Minneapolis riots.  The owner, Mr. Blyly (aka the Uncle), wished to make signed books available to long-time customers and Liaden Universe® readers.  The only way this could be made to work was for Baen to have the printer send Steve and me pages for us to sign.  These pages will be bound into a set of books and sent to Mr. Blyly.  This process of binding in a special page is in the industry called "tipped in," which technical description you will see on the catalog page linked above.

3b  Trader's Leap hardcover may also, of course, be preordered from your favorite bookstore, whatever it is.

3c  You may not preorder the ebook edition of Trader's Leap from your favorite bookstore as yet.  This is because of how Baen markets its bundles and eARCS and that's all I know on the subject.

3d  There is no word yet on an audio edition.

4  If you have read the Trader's Leap eARC and Want To Talk About It, a Spoiler Discussion space has been set up here

The Wrong Lance by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller is available for pre-order in the Ithing store, Kindle, Kobo and Nook stores. Order today if you like. This is the out-take of material originally written for but then not used for Accepting the Lance, and thus is non-canon...

YES, this title will be available from Baen, on October 27. Baen is not able to do pre-orders for Pinbeam Books. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

A paper edition may happen -- we're still trying to figure this out. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

As promised, the serialization of The Wrong Lance has been removed from Splinter Universe and from the Lee and Miller Patreon page.  I'm in the process of making The Wrong Lance into an ebook, which will be available for download in October.  I'll also look at making a paper edition available through Amazon, but changes have been made to the systems that I use for this which may make a paper edition too difficult for me to pursue.

The "spoiler" discussion for The Wrong Lance is still live, at this page.

Thanks to everyone who read along for your patience and enthusiasm for this project.

So, let's do a little catch-up.

1  Amazon is currently having a $.99 sale on the Kindle edition of Shout of Honor: Adventures in the Liaden Universe® Number 29, published in May 2019.  If you have an interest, or think someone you know might have an interest, here's the link.

Barnburner, a cozy Maine mystery by Sharon Lee, the first of two books featuring Jen Pierce, is now available as an ebook, paper book, and audiobook.  Here's your link.

2a  Gunshy, the second Jen Pierce novel, will be along bye-n-bye, so watch the skies.

The Wrong Lance, that being the start of the novel which is NOT Accepting the Lance, is being posted, a chapter a week on Mondays.  There are 11 chapters, and Chapter Six posted this morning.  If you'd like to join the fun, you can start here.

4  I will be moderating a panel at reCONvene on August 15, time to be determined.  Panelists are: Steven Barnes, Jenn Brissett, Br Guy Consolmagno SJ, Adrian Tchaikovsky. We will be taking up the topic of Earth's place in the future; what it may mean to be "from" Earth; and what Earth itself may look like, socially, and environmentally.  More information on reCONvene may be found here.

5  Today is Princess Jasmine Sprite's eighth birthday.  Here's a picture of her being patient when I interrupted her morning squirrel watch:

Stream of Consciousness Warning

1  For those playing along at home, I have had sixteen ray gun therapy sessions, with only nine more to go.  My skin in the treatment area has begun to burn, which I know by looking at it.  Surgery left me mostly numb in that region, which is a blessing.  There are one or two small areas that are not numb, though they don't hurt nearly as much as a visual inspection suggests that they should.  Yes, I am using the prescribed emollient; and Steve has taken over chauffeuring duties to and from the Cancer Center.

For fans of the Hummer Bar:  we are open, and have seen custom, which is gratifying, and amuses me, at least.  The cats don't seem so interested in hummingbirds.  Squirrels, now. . .

3  For those who may not have seen the news -- Uncle Hugo's and its sister store, Uncle Edgars, in Minneapolis, have burned to the ground, victims of Friday night's civil unrest.  All hands are safe and accounted for, but the stores and all contents are gone.  This is a horrifying loss to the community.  Don Blyly, the owner, is in the process of -- well, processing the situation, consulting his lawyer, and doing those things that one must in the aftermath of catastrophe.  He has not set up any Go-Fund-Me accounts, he has not put out a call for books to help him restock.  He's still thinking, taking advice, and weighing options.  If you see any calls for contributions of cash or stock, please do not respond; several drives have been started by concerned persons, but they are not in any way official.  When Don needs our help, he will tell us.

4  On Monday June 1 -- that's tomorrow -- morning at 9 am Eastern, the first chapter of The Wrong Lance will -- or at least, should -- appear at Patreon, for Patrons Only, and also at Splinter Universe, for all who care to look for it.

4a  For those who missed the announcement and the ground-rules in re The Wrong Lance, you may find those here.  The Introduction, posted last Monday, is here.

5  Trooper just stole a face mask off my desk. He was very clever about it, sneaking in under the lip of the standing desk, and lifting his snout centimeter by centimeter, until he was in a position to snatch! the ear-loop, fling himself to the floor, and take up position on his favorite sun rug, looking oh-so-very pleased with himself.  I have recovered the mask, and will wash it later.  In the meantime, I am, need I say, in Trooper's Black Book.

Here endeth my stream of consciousness.

Everybody stay safe.
