Weather Underground reports another earthquake at Bar Harbot, this one at 4.2 on the Richter scale.

That's the second earthquake in a week(?), and doubles the number of earthquakes in Maine since I've been living in-state.

Um. There's a reason I'm not living in California. Just sayin'.

EDITED TO ADD

DECEMBER 17, 2014:  Deleted Kalimeg's comment because it's apparently very, very important to a woman who is interested in earthquakes that the link is dead.  She's written to me several times about this (yes, about a dead link in a reply to a blog entry that's eight years old), wanting me to alter the link to one she's provided, which naturally I can't do.  I hope this gives her peace, poor soul.

The check, she still does not arrive.

However, we are in receipt of a Pleasant Correspondence from the Thrice-Cursed Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, explaining that, because there are 'way too many sick people in Maine who wrong-headedly insist on filing claims against the insurance they're paying for, Anthem is compelled to ask for (and will doubtless receive) a 20.5% increase in rates, beginning January 2007. The stockholders need their profits, after all. This means that our monthly health insurance payment will go up to $602.49. I foresee the Freelancers Health Plan ("don't get sick") in our very near future.

Also in the mail, an insincere but well-written rejection letter from a prospective employer with whom I did not even score an interview. Hey, at least they bothered to acknowledge my existence.

No local jobs listed in today's paper. Apparently, I'm going to need to look to Portland, which means a two-hour bus ride each way. Well. Plenty of time to catch up on my reading.

Sigh...

The sun's out. I'm going for a walk.

...and warm, too. In-between Then and Now, we've lost nine degrees and the sun has gone to sulk behind the clouds.

Anyhow, the walk was pleasant. Lots of darning needles and butterflies taking advantage of the sunshine. I surprised a ruffed grouse in the cat garden. It stared at me with this, "Well, what are you looking at?" attitude, then turned and huffed off toward the back woods.

Those who have been playing along at home will remember that last night I reported what sounded like every cop car in town, and the fire engines, too, roaring past on the road to Albion. This morning, the Sentinel told us they were responding to a barn fire. [livejournal.com profile] kinzel drove past the scene on his way to the post office this morning and took some pictures, which he may be sharing over at his place.

Meatloaf and carrots for dinner, mmmm. And now, back to work.
