what do you think of the Pullman books? I found them fascinating, with exceptional world-building. I also want to move them into the adult stacks wherever I find them. I know the protagonists are teenager-ish, but the themes are complexly adult -- love, betrayal, nature of souls, forgiveness and redemption, faith and science. They can stay in YA/childrens... I just want them on adult shelves, too.

what do you think of the Pullman books?

I loved The Golden Compass and thought The Subtle Knife finely done. I had serious problems with The Amber Spyglass, though, and don't expect to read it Ever Again; it came this close to ruining the other two books for me.

I do wonder why these books are filed under fantasy, instead of science fiction.

If you enjoy biographies, I ran across a fun one recently - Privilege and Scandal, The Remarkable Life of Harriet Spencer, Sister of Georgiana. Written by Janet Gleeson.

I've seen a number of references to Georgette Heyer & the Regency period in this website and the discussion forums, so if you're interested you might enjoy this.
