Conflict of Honors, because...because of some reason I could articulate if I had more than an hour's sleep last night and hadn't just worked 11 and a half straight hours.

Scout's Progress, because I love watching Aelliana come into her own and Daav watching out for her best interest, and because I love Binjali's and Jon deaCort, and Samiv and the way she and Daav break their engagement, and the scene where Aelliana gets her license. But I would have opted for the package of Scout's Progress and Mouse and Dragon if I could.

I Dare is a very close second because of what reedrover said, that it wraps up a bit of everything in one package. It may be my most frequent reread (it's by my bed at the moment).

But I also love Balance of Trade, because Jethri is such a decent guy and it's fun to watch him spread his wings.

And CoH was the first I read, and I became a fan of yours when Priscilla stepped aboard the Passage and had her interview with Shan.

I like the others, but that quartet is probably my favorite. Although Ghost Ship may well factor in there after it's had time to settle.

Voted I Dare because that's the one re-read the most; usually go thru and read all of the sections concerning Val Con/Miri or Pat Rin separately. Next favorite is Plan B, partly because the book was awaited for such a long time with no guarantee of it ever seeing the light of my reading lamp.

Plan B

Because I waited all those looooooong years for it ;-)

I would have to pick Plan B and I Dare as they're the ones I re-read most. I tend to think of them as one long work anyway.

But Ghost Ship is rising fast. Particularly on the second read when I started to see how you were using vocabulary to highlight the characters' cultural assumptions.

Scout's Progress, because it shows us the problems of Liad from an insider's POV. Plus I love all its characters to itty bitty pieces, even more so than the others.

I Dare is a close second, for its lovely combination of action, plot resolution, and bonus! Ren Zel.

Heh, They just keep getting better.

Ghost Ship, I find that I appreciate the weaving of the various threads together. Theo is interesting as an expression of the tree's interest in Korval. The re-introduction of old characters intrigues me. And frankly I think that the years of practice have honed the author's skills. It's a very tight race though. I could easily have picked Conflict of Honor, the first Liaden book I read.

I Dare, because it brings together so many characters and plot lines and! the redemption of Pat Rin. And (I think; I am in the process of re-reading) it has Ren Zel, who is one of my favorite non-main-characters. But it is very hard to choose. I love that Carpe Diem gives Miri and Val Con a chance to learn how to be married, and the part in Plan B where Shan and Val Con reunite, and so many things about every single one of your books.

I Dare -- I like the "relative who doesn't fit in makes good" storyline, the powerful emotional parts of the plot, the way Pat Rin's actions interweave with the rest of the family's actions to make a happy ending.. It's my first reread when I reread the Liaden stories, and leads to rereading all the rest.

Agent of Change, because it was my first Liaden book and because it sets up the universe - I love worldbuilding and learning about things. I Dare is a very, very close second because of Pat Rin (as frequently mentioned in the other comments!). Though I tend to think of that four-book story as one thing (I can never remember, except for the AoC/CD junction, exactly where one ends and the next begins).

Ghost Ship

Although I was introduced by Fledgling, I find Ghost ship to be my favorite so far... Although it's still tough to identify a favorite given that they're all separated by ten thousandths of a favorite point...

I admit to a supreme lack of patience while waiting for the next chapter of the clan...

Haven't got my copy of Ghost Ship yet. And honestly, the series isn't done on account of you two not being dead, so I do not know if I have a favorite.

I tend to cry a lot when I reread Scout's Progress. And I tend to need to reread it a lot. So that might be my favorite for now. But I pretty much like any bits where I get Daav and Aelliana's point of view, soooo...

Carpe Diem was the first Liaden Universe book I read, 'way back when. I found Agent of Change, but for some reason, I couldn't find Conflict of Honors until I bought everything through I Dare in trade paperback editions about a decade ago. I've read everything since then in ebook editions, and have everything Baen published that way, at least.

I got to thinking of Carpe Diem as "Honeymoon on an interdicted planet", and especially liked Miri's explanation of why those people weren't really soldiers.

Crystal Soldier, because it's all about the Tree for me. That, and I LOVE Jela.
I love the other stories as well, but Jela and his Tree have the center of my heart.

AoC because it was my starting point, and for several years was one of the two I had (CD was the other) then for several more years one of only three (with CoH). But really I love them all so much picking one is sort of weird.

I selected CoH, because it was the first one I read. I'm very fond of Shan and Priscilla, and I really liked seeing life on the ship. But if I pick up CoH to reread, I will read the rest of them again, too. Once I'm in that universe, I don't like to leave.

I enjoy rereading Conflict of Honors. It was my first introduction to the Liaden universe and will probably always be my favorite.

Priscilla is a great character and she leads the reader into understanding what's going on with those crazy Liadens. She also grows a lot during the story, discovering her talents and abilities, going from the most despised crew on her first ship, to Shan's equal partner later.

Plus it is a great romance story. I am a sucker for those.

Crystal Soldier was easily my favorite. The narrative about Jela and the Tree completely drew me in.

As anonymous I cannot participate in the polling.
My vote is also for I Dare - its the best romance, as well as being great space opera.

I do so like Fledgling, to see her stretching her wings, learning and moving out into the unsuspecting Universe. And picking out a very nice rug. Seriously, there's something in that scene that always evokes a warm, comforting feeling in me.

Conflict of Honors--I love to read about Shan!

But I've only read what's in the recent re-release ombibus books so that may change.

Yikes! This is harder than I thought.

I've read, re-read, listened and re-listened to Local Custom sooo many times I truly have lost count. To me its a perfect story. The plot, dialogue, characters, settings, descriptions - perfection. I cared about the characters and felt that I understood them.

Oh my. I love them all and reread them often and eagerly await each new story! But my favorite is Agent of Change - your opening hook line has stuck with me thru all the years "The man who was not Terrance O'Grady" (gee I hope I have that correctly as I'm too tired just now to go look it up.)I love Val Con and Miri and the Turtles. I love how you've developed Pat Rin's character.

conflict of honors. Though really, you want me to only pick one?

Anyway not only was it my introduction to Liad but something about the story just grabs me and hugs me and squeezes me. :)

I chose Conflict of Honors, but I would be happier if Partners in Necessity had been available as a choice. The entire volume was my main comfort reading for years and years, and while I know there are three books in there, since I bought it as one package I think of the three as one and always read them that way. (And of course, once I've read those I have to go on to read Plan B, then I Dare.)

I Dare is next, because of how amazing Pat Rin is, how he steps up and does such an incredible job despite thinking that he may be the last of the clan. The very traits that caused him to be something of a black sheep are most valuable to him in establishing a haven! I think anyone who has ever been a black sheep can't help but love that one. (I'm hearing Jayne from Firefly say, "You took that stick and, well, you took it!")
