Steve and I usually have a Traveling Companion with us on trips.  For the upcoming book tour, I have three veteran Companions to choose from, but I'm having trouble deciding who to bring.

Should it be. . .
Hassan the Assassin
Hassan the Assassin?

Harwil the platypus
Harwil the platypus?

Or. . .

Sly Fox
Sly Fox?

Vote below!  Feel free to discuss the merits of each in Comments.

So, I'm back on the couch today because I overstrained the ankle yesterday (which no one could have predicted, right?), typing on The Leewit, with Mozart in his window hammock, keeping a Very Sharp Eye Out for pirates, UPS trucks, Quiet and/or Louder, and That Uppity Squirrel. In between naps.

Anyway, we haven't forgotten the Liaden Pronunciation Guide project, but we need some help in deciding on format.

This? Is your cue.

rolanni: (Reading is sexy)
As some of you may know (we didn't, until it was pointed out to us by an Alert Reader), Baen has decided to release two editions of some top-line 2012 books: A regular, unsigned copy at The Usual Price Point ($22 - $24); and a limited-to-1000-copy signed edition for $30. These editions would be released simultaneously and be available equally through all vendors, including Amazon.com and BN. This would effect books by David Weber, John Ringo, Larry Correia, and Lee-and-Miller.

I'm curious how readers might feel about the price difference between the signed and unsigned editions. When we were signing hardcover preorders for Meisha Merlin, back in the day, there was no extra charge for our signatures, so personally I'm rather. . .non-plussed by this new scheme. I do know that Very Special Editions -- such as slip-cased editions, or illustrated editions -- command higher prices, and rightly so, but it just seems. . .wrong to charge people for ink.

So! What do you think?

We -- which is to say I -- still receive notes from people who Suddenly! Realize! that they haven't received their subscriber copy of either Saltation or Fledgling.

I personally happen to think that we're 'way beyond the time when we can reasonably be expected to keep mailing books out. But! It's a well-known fact that I'm hard on people, and meanly expect unreasonably hard things like answering email, or responding to a postcard begging for a good address, or paying attention to InfoDumps.

That being the case, you -- yes, you -- get to help me decide what's fair and humane.

These would be professional clay chips; not plastic, not silver, not brass.

Any other thoughts on poker chips or other Liaden Universe(R) related products?  Tell me in comments.

OK! Here's some fun. Far more often than seldom, a review will appear -- either in a professional venue, or in a blog, or on Amazon, which states, "While X is not up to Lee and Miller's BEST work..." ([livejournal.com profile] robotech_master, yours is only one in a long line). This sort of thing has always seemed...like a bit of a cheat...to me, because, yanno, here's this reader who knows what Lee and Miller's BEST work is -- and they're not going tell you!

Dirty pool, I say.

So, here's your chance. Below is a list of longer Liaden works. Which is the Best? Choose one and only one, then! Defend your choice in comments.

Have at it.
