Today’s to-do list is this:
1. Work on bookkeeping until lunch
2. Eat lunch
3. Do last editing pass through “Guaranteed Delivery”
4. Do dishes
5. Eat dinner
6. Read with Steve
7. Go to bed

Tomorrow — is my birthday, and I’m keeping away from anyplace that has a live television set, internet connection or anything else that will be broadcasting the Tenth Anniversary. Therefore, my plan:

1. Rise early, drive to Old Orchard Beach, with a selection of favorite CDs

2. Have breakfast at Michelle’s: no television; satellite rock ‘n roll station on the radio

3. Picnic lunch on the beach

4. Dinner at one of several possibilities, depending on where we happen to be when the bell sounds, none of which have television sets.

I hope that those who share my natal day will also be able to enjoy themselves as they wish, and good fortune to us all.

Everybody have a good weekend, ‘k? I’ll see you on Monday.

Still sick, but I got ‘em on the run. *eyes saltwater gargle wearily*

Because I slept all day yesterday, I did not fulfill my goal of completing the last of the workshop papers, nor did I dig a hole in the Cat Garden. Today, it’s raining, and Steve has respectfully — not to say, reasonably — suggested that we conduct a Proper Burial after our world travels are through. Below, therefore, a Revised To-Do List.

In case one has missed the announcement elsewhere, there is a teaser up at Splinter Universe for “Kin Ties,” which goes live — anyone?

Yes, excellent! “Kin Ties” goes live on Friday.

And, now, to work.

To-Do Before Leaving for Reno
1. Finish critiquing the submissions for our section of the WorldCon Writing Workshop: 1, 2, 3
2. Do prep for the panel I’m moderating
3. Make sure The Leewit has the latest edition of George on her SDcard, and the notes for “Guaranteed Delivery”
4. Write an essay with Steve. Must isolate a topic.
5. Have and recover from pre-departure panic attack
6. Pack, which includes “do laundry”
6a. Find all pertinent wires
7. Upload “Kin Ties” to Splinter Universe
8. Turn over keys, house, and felines to cat sitter

Today, I did nothing I intended to do. Well. That’s not exactly true. I did add the bio pages to korval.com (you can see them here and also here). Steve made a new banner and I uploaded that, too.

I did a blog entry about the end of the world, again.

I answered some, though by no means all, of my overdue email.

I downloaded a buncha fairy tale books from Gutenberg for Paladin, and also bought him some newer books from BN.

I washed the dishes.

I screwed up my new glasses — definitely didn’t have that on the to-do list.

I did not, alas, finish up with the printing for WorldCon, or do any writing, other than bios, blogs, and email.

I think tomorrow will be a writing day, no matter how many Shiny! Things! have to be done.

And, to the kind folks who keep adding me to circles and things over on Google+ — I appreciate your attention, but don’t expect this bear to dance soon, if ever. I can’t for the life of me understand what it is that Google thinks I want with this Wonderful! New! Venue! and the whole circle things just, er, makes my head spin.

Whereby hangs a sort-of funny story, but. . .not this evening. This evening, I’m getting off of this infernal machine and joining my husband for lunch.

Hope everyone’s staying cool, and being sensible in the heat.

Made in-roads on the Sunday to-do list, with the notable exceptions of even looking at the laundry (really, you've seen one hamper-full of dirty laundry, you've seen all the dirty laundry there is, forever), or uploading an ebook or two.

I did do the dishes, and linked up the Pinbeam Books site, insofar as &c. The Smashwords links aren't live; they'll come up one at a time, as I get the books converted, however -- the links to the various Nook, Kindle, Baen, and Fictionwise ebooks are live, and yes! I am mighty.

My mightyness now being rather tired, not to say hungry, it's to the kitchen with me, in search of a handwich and something to drink.

For those who count -- tomorrow is Monday.
rolanni: (crescent)
Had some errands to do in the South yesterday. While we were in that part of the world, we paid our respects to the sea, which was all but invisible when we arrived, by reason of the fog. By the time we'd done our errands and had lunch at JJ's (mmmm, portobello mushroom, spinach and cheese sandwich, with sweet potato fries), serious amounts of fog had blown up the hill and dissipated, leaving the ocean visible all the way to Wood Island Light, on the one hand, while Cape Elizabeth Light, on the other, was still shrouded in cloud.

We did a minor walking tour, then came home a long way, for dinner, a glass of wine, and a chapter of Invader.

All in all, an enjoyable day.

And now? Chores.

To-Do

1. Business correspondence
2. Finish signing tip-pages
3. Cat housekeeping -- boxes and fountain
4. Upload an ebook or two
5. Laundry
6. Figure out when the heck Binjali needs to get inspected. Ought to be soon.... In fact, before the end of the month. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] kinzel, who went out and looked at the dern tag for me.
7. Pay bills

Sunday To-Do

Sunday, May 8th, 2011 10:23 am
rolanni: (Caffeine molecule)
1. Set up auction for red-leather book
2. Eat breakfast. Do not drink more than four cups of coffee. um. oops?
3. Salute the cats
4. Clean cat boxes
5. Set bread to risebake
6. Proofread Ghost Ship (read today's 100 pages; read 100 pages tomorrow and the thing's done.
7. Laundry
8. Eat lunch
9. Supper, too
10. Go to bed before 2 a.m. No. Really. I'm going! I'm going!

For those playing along at home -- Steve has achieved Baltimore, and has seen his mom. Various family stuff proceedeth.

Regarding the Ghost Ship galleys, yesterday in the course of my proofreading, I came across two things added in by the editor*. One of them, to my embarrassment, I thought I had fixed myself in revision, but apparently not. Sigh. This is why we have editors, and why the idea of Renouncing Traditional Publishing and Showing Them All!, while occasionally attractive, is maybe really not the road everyone ought to take. Especially if you are -- as most writers of course are not! -- just a little prone to wearing your nerves on your sleeve.

Now, having said the above -- I have an Idea. It would be more of an Idea if the perfessers would leave over dinning in my ears so I could have five minutes to think, but -- summer's coming. And not a minute too soon.

Anyhow, just, yanno, casually asking -- would you be interested in a web serial detailing the various doings of the courier ship Ride the Luck? I'm envisioning a series of interlocked short stories. Would you be willing to subscribe to such an endeavor, knowing that there would be no reward beyond the Warm Fuzzies?

And now! The laundry calls.

-------
*Both to the benefit of the story.
rolanni: (the captain will see you now)

OK, this is it. Your very last reminder to go, Go! here and pre-order a signed copy of Ghost Ship. Tomorrow — Saturday, April 30 — is the very last day ever that you’ll be able to do this. Pre-orders almost match pledges, so we know there’s somebody — or even somebodies — out there who will be Mighty Disappointed, as we say here in Maine, if they don’t Act Now.

In other news, it’s Friday, and that? Is a fine thing, indeed. I met Steve at Cacciatore’s after work for a late lunch, early dinner, then came home spent the BN gift certificate my faculty gave me for Secretaries Administrative Professional’s Day. Well, done Faculty! Canny shopping gained me The Perilous Gard (Elizabeth Marie Pope), I Don’t Want to Kill You (Dan Wells), Where the Mountain Meets the Moon (Grace Lin), The Secret of Roan Inish, Ondine and! I pre-ordered Pat Wrede’s Across the Great Barrier, the (eagerly awaited, in these parts) sequel to Thirteenth Child. Four books and two selkie flicks.

*is happy*

Plans for the weekend include the ever-popular laundry; the lawn-tidying postponed from last weekend; working on George; and finishing up with Treasure Island. Maybe I can convert a chapbook or two, if I get up early. Um? I have to outline a talk that I agreed to give on. . .next Thursday evening.

Eep.

Well. Maybe the chapbooks will wait.

I haven’t forgotten the Closet Auction; plans are to get those started early-to-mid next week.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

1. Finish proofing Saltation galleys
2. Take down Yule tree
3. Bake bread
4. Print more flyers -- Chattacon 37
5. Print more newsletters
6. Vacuum and dust
7. Find surface of desk
8. Figure out what to do with all the boxes of authors' copies in the living room
9. Print out George and get some work done, for ghu's sake
10. Gird one's loins for the Week Ahead
rolanni: (Saving world)
1. Finish proofing Saltation galleys
2. Print Chattacon 37 flyer for mailing
3. Print more newsletters for mailing
4. Make bread*
5. Clean cat boxes
6. Do laundry
7. Vacuum and dust
8. Find surface of desk
9. Take down Yule tree
10. Pack away humidifier now that it's clean and dry
11. Figure out what to do about the numerous boxes of books in the living room
12. Print out George and get back to work; vacation's over
Edited to add: 13. Grocery shopping

There's more, but I think twelve's thirteen's more than enough for the weekend.

Also, everybody's seen these, right? I've asked our Russian History professor to please bring one back for the hall, the next time he's in Russia, but I fear there's a waiting list...

Edited to add:

Sat down with Saltation -- and fell asleep. Which prompted me to move on with dough-making and humidifier-stowing. Sat down again -- and started to nod off. Obviously, the answer, Captain Obvious, is to stand up while you're reading the dern proofs. Right after I do the dishes. Which is not, I note, on the to-do list, as wasn't veggie-chopping, though that got done, too.

---------
*That's the "make the dough and set it to rise until tomorrow or the next day" part of making the bread. I suspect tomorrow we'll see "bake bread" on the Revised To-Do.
rolanni: (Illusionist)
Have recovered the kitchen table, washer and dryer are going, the final of Ghost Ship is printing out. Abney Park, Lost Horizons on the music box to help move things along.

Sunday To-Do

Sunday, September 5th, 2010 10:31 am
rolanni: (Phoenix from Little Shinies)
1. Sleep in
2. Update front page at sharonleewriter.com
3. Ghost Ship subplots (on-going)
4. Order in postcards/bookmarks, Carousel Tides
5. Take a walk; my ghod it's gorgeous outside!
rolanni: (weather)

Yesterday, Steve and I signed several hundred Saltations, then took advantage of a free movie pass to see Ondine at Railroad Square Cinema (home of the Maine International Film Festival!)  If you have a chance to see Ondine, do that.  I’m kind of a sucker for selkies, myself, but you don’t have to be a selkie freak to enjoy the movie.  Also — how refreshing to have a disabled child as a central character who’s a know-it-all and a bit of a bitch.  Anyhow, see this movie, even if you don’t have a free pass.

Today, I have a rather long to-do list, mixing up mundane items like clearing out the cabinet under the kitchen bathroom sink so Steve can replace the washer in the hot water faucet (at least, let’s hope it’s as simple as that),  doing the laundry and the dishes, mounting a compare-and-contrast with the Saltation databases, bringing together something Very Exciting that I’ll tell you about later.  Oh, and writing.

It’s raining here; Mozart has already read the morning comics and is having an early morning nap on the papers next to my keyboard.

See y’all later.

Tuesday To-Do

2. Finish laundry And the crowd roared!
3. Consider Ran some more
4. Do a blog post on HEA
5. Prep for day-job, tomorrow

...that might be manageable.
rolanni: (Illusionist)

1.a. Make bruschetta with 'way over-ripe tomato, funky onion, garlic, and the last of the green olives
2. Finish laundry
3. Finish bookkeeping
4. Do dishes
5. Consider Ran (name subject to change)
6. Prep for tomorrow's vote
7. Do blog post on HEA (Happy Ever After) endings
8. A nice relaxing pasta dinner, with wine. And garlic bread. And something else, maybe a dessert.

To-Do

Sunday, May 16th, 2010 07:45 am
rolanni: (blackcatmoon)
1. Finish laundry
2. Do dishes
3. Outline Tuesday presentation
4. Write 50,000 words of Ghost Ship
5. Locate a space where there are no professors banging pots in my head and outline:
5a. contemporary ghost story I've been trying to get to since January
5b. new novel series

Edited to add: In fact, I did not write 50,000 words of Ghost Ship today. I trust this surprises no one.

Anybody got a winning lottery ticket they'd like to give me?

Cookbook rec?

Does anybody have (and like) a crockpot recipe book that uses whole ingredients, rather than things like "cream of chicken soup"?

Was just over at the working wiki for Mouse and Dragon. It has a deadline timer right there on the front page, to put the Fear of Deadline in me, and I never turned it off. Says it's been 305 days since the delivery date. 'nother timer, over on my Google homepage, says that M&D's street date is 17 days distant. That's covering a lot of ground pretty dern fast, from pages to print.

Don't forget the Pilots Choice auction. There was a question regarding the starting bid of $75 -- why was it so high. I figure if one person asked, more wondered. So! The starting bid is so high because the good people at ABE books are pricing their (very, very few) Pilots Choice hardcovers from a low $172.50 to a high of $220. Also, the original cover price, in Year 2001 dollars, was $40. So $75 did not seem at all out of line.

It's also a point now mooted; the minimum has been made.

I'll be scarce -- or maybe not. Got a To-Do list for this weekend that I could wrap around me and wear as a dress.

Everybody heading for the beach?
rolanni: (bleedingheart from furriboots)
Paid the bills. Still money in the checkbook. That won't last.

The first six boxes of culls are in the trunk of the Little Green Car, to be dropped off at the Winslow Public Library on Monday.

Have some business email to answer, a phone call to make. . .

. . .and some writing to do.

How's your Saturday shaping up?
rolanni: (foxy)
1. Friday, meet with accountant after work; pick up car from shop

2. Saturday -- write or know the reason why I know the reason why

3. Sunday -- put together and email an InfoDump; Second Life podcast interview

4. Monday -- database wrangling and bookkeeping. Nope, instead, I practiced my presentation and doodled around with WordPress

5. Tuesday -- write? It could still happen Nah, it didn't happen

6. Wednesday -- take Hexampuma to specialist in Portland to have his ear evaluated
and very likely operated on. We're looking at significant snowfall for the first time in, what, a month? Tonight and into tomorrow morning. See [livejournal.com profile] kinzel's Journeyman for details and a wonderful picture of the Hexacat.

7. Thursday -- Sharon gives presentation as part of Moonlighting panel after end of
day-job day. Another faculty person has been added to the panel. At this point, I figure I'm comic relief -- and good job that my talk runs purposefully short.

7a. After talk, take car to shop. Again.

8. Friday -- fall on face.

9. Saturday and Sunday -- write, dammit

10. Monday -- take car back to shop, because it's still not fixed, after a series of increasingly expensive repairs, each of which was touted as The Cure. Somebody is doing the next fix for free, if I gotta go explain it to the Boss Himself.

Welladay...

Thursday, February 11th, 2010 07:57 pm
rolanni: (readbooks from furriboots)
I was going to post a long discussion about the cost of books, all kines, the. . .duplicity of. . .certain publishers, and reader expectation brought about by a conversation with a bookseller friend this afternoon, after reading this article this morning.

I fear me this Pithy, Insightful post will not happen tonight. Perhaps soon.

In the next week, the following things are penned into the schedule:

1. Friday, meet with accountant after work; pick up car from shop

2. Saturday -- write or know the reason why

3. Sunday -- put together and email an InfoDump; Second Life podcast interview

4. Monday -- database wrangling and bookkeeping

5. Tuesday -- write?

6. Wednesday -- take Hexampuma to specialist in Portland to have his ear evaluated
and very likely operated on

7. Thursday -- Sharon gives presentation as part of Moonlighting panel after end of
day-job day

8. Friday -- fall on face.

9. Saturday and Sunday -- write, dammit
rolanni: (walk in the snow)
Yanno? I think I'm giving up on the whole cleaning the house thing.

In other news, it's snowing. The weatherbeans are calling an upper snow-fall of three inches, closely followed by rain, freezing rain and rain. And where, I ask you, is the fun in that?

As reported elsewhere, tomorrow is Monday, at the conclusion of which there will be seven more days until winter break.

I did get a teensy bit of writing done; apparently this book is going for the teensy-bit model. I sorta prefer the white-hot-heat-of-creative-genius model, myself, though it is harder on the scenery.

Fans of Mozart will be pleased to learn that he is asleep on the the rocker and snoring like a champ. Hexapuma is conked out on the african atop the bird food bins in the kitchen, and Scrabble sleeps with the heffalumps is resting on top of her head in the co-pilot's chair in Steve's office.

Everybody stay warm, and we'll see you on the flipside.
